Agreed, don't drive it too hard and tweak saturation to taste, more often than not by reducing it.
I find you don't want to exceed 0db on the RB meters.
Between about -3 and 0 is the sweet spot in my experience.

I absolutely love TB reelbus! It can be subtle and it can be bold. One thing is important, different algos really sound completely different! Take those studer algos and crank up the saturation and you'll get lots of distortion (which CAN be good as FX) but with same settings, change the algo to glue and there is close to nothing of any distortion, the sound is completely different. And very usable, I might add. Also, studer algos get darker if you increase the filtering but two latest ones get kinda "brighter" with it. There is lots to tweak with this thing.

I was just doing 60s like production with simple drum miking (with AKG D224 on snare being the main mic, augmented with room ribbon and LDC on kick), Carol Kaye style bass and Piano in Blue and I got away with amazing amounts of that tape sound mayhem. Normally I wouldn't go that far. But of course my recorded sounds were already pretty 60s sounding, that is naturally a prerequisite for that kind of sound. BTW I actually used reelbus for most dynamic compression on drums, actual compressors weren't doing much.

Anyway this plugin is amazing IMHO. And very versatile.

I tried many tape plugins. Really many. If you are into tape Reelbus is MUST have. I have Slate Tape, Reelbus and i was really impressed with UAD ampex but i sold UAD. I miss it only because of Ampex.

UAD studer on the other hand is bad imho and can't compete with slate or reelbus..it just sound like a saturation/shaper to me..

Just bought it! Demo sounded so frakin' good on my tracks... Can't wait for that registration key file to arrive!

Edit: Just woke up... it's been about 8 hours since I purchased it and still no key file...

you probably shouldn't use it then

i use reel bus occasionally. it's an effect that sometimes compliments my music quite well.

Well personally I agree with someone I spoke to about it via pm. Not sure if he would be happy to go public about it but we both agree that some commenters pretty much bs anything they see.
