and I know what you mean about the rhythm - I did go back through the drumm programming and add some variation, but I think the primary driving rhythm is the high acoustic guitar and that's what's doing the plodding .

"Dub Side of the Tune" Mr. Tunes
What a mellow tune. Sounds great. Like prog-rock, I don't think dubby reggae works too well under 2 minutes because you need to let to music wander around and go where it likes but you manage to make this feel a lot longer than it is. Love the drums.

Excellent song. The bass line and all the sounds are too cool. Vocals remind me of Underworld. If I liked animae, I would think this would be such a cool soundtrack to a movie of some kid flying his motorcycle over the glowing nighttime neon matrix of New Tokyo - oh wait, Ken Ishii already did that, didn't he? Well I like your song even better than his. I'm getting too old for all that NRG music - but I still love to watch and tap my feet. This song makes me think of a futuristic Syd Mead metropolis and I can't complain about that. OMT, it's also getting harder for me to hear so would you bring up the vocals please?

What is that loop running through the background of this? It's probably something you concocted, but it reminds me of satellite telemetry. I love that sound, it's so familiar but I haven't heard it in so long.

I think appreciating music is as subjective as it is formalistic but I also think it is possible to take any string of notes and make an interesting song out of them that will please as many as it will offend. That's why creative failure seems to be synonymous with mediocrity. This isn't meant to be a roundabout way of this song is mediocre, but the song doesn't challenge my assumptions. It seems to go almost exactly where I would predict it would go. On a technical note, some of those drum hits sound flammed like the MIDI notes are on top of each other (over-quantized).

It's like low-rent Brian Wilson without the pop song structure. The atmosphere is interesting - a dreamy glass carousel rising to the sky until it falters and heavens light pours forth pushing it back to the ground.

"Vicious Crowd" Windchillfactor
This could be the great song the John Cale didn't actually write but your voice needs to come out of the mix. Very haunting ideas but it need more darkness. The drums and sitar are too clean. With the right mixing this will be even more affecting. I wonder if you've ever heard Fact Twenty Two or James Thirlwell. People I think you would dig.

I've been racking my brain trying to think what song has that HAL sample in it. I'll remember before I get done... Cool sounds. The intros has a 70s disco gloss that evaporates into the tamed techno sequencer stuff in the rest. I love the bass drum sound you to anchor the beat. ...Oh Oh Oh! I found it! - While writing something for Windchillfactor above. It was Fact Twenty Two in 1991's "Douglas Rain" (BTW that's the actor's name who voiced HAL) that used the "OMG it's full of stars..." quote, but I think there's something else far more popular with it... (I have about 2000 albums so it takes me a little while to find something...)

Oh yeah, it's "Amber" by Banco de Gaia where that sample shows up! And KLF I hear too...

"Accomplishing, Believing" Garret Gengler
Always a pleasure listening to your stuff Garret. (I constantly feel the need to add an extra "t" to your name...) I've said before how your songs always have that natural unpretentious feel... I like the organ and maracas. The first line of vocals strains on the high note a little uncomfortably but gets real mellow when the backup vox comes in - though a few parts of the backing vocals are quite wacky - and yet they work; not distracting at all. And there's that Garret Gengler® Thoughtful Pause™ in the middle. That's the hallmark of Garret Gengler® quality craftsmanship. I like it. I have almost a whole album's worth of your songs now - they're all great.

Fackin’ Awesome. The beginning reminded me a bit of Aerosmith’s “Dream On” (which I love) but yours stays on it’s own original path. I wish it were my entry. So that’s the good news. The bad news is that the vocals could use a little reinforcement and there’s some minor stray deep bumps around 1:26 – they’re probably kick drum hits but they sound out-of-place (like bumping the mic). I love this song. It IS my cuppa.

'Cause I turn it off usually. I thought I would use it as a secret code - but then I changed my mind. Next month no more verbose messages from me. At 48 entrees (and still counting) my fingers are getting blisters from typing. I still haven't figured out how to get my sig rotator script working with the new phpBB software - but I'll find a way... I need to find a way to benignly hack the growing homogeneousness of the forum.

It sure is a nice day outside - but man are the bugs loud! You have to raise your voice to talk over them. Of course they're flying around bumping in to you too. I'm going over to the neighbors for Mai-Tais later. I'll be sure to have a drink for my KvR pals then it's nap time.
