Extension cables that work with CCK

Does anyone know of an extension cable that works with the camera connection kit, allowing midi and audio devices to operate. One would think that an extension cable is just a bunch of wires going from point a to point b. But apparently there is some issue because the iPad is providing the power in this set up.
I would like to use an extension cable because I have to take the iPad out of the case to hook up the CCK. Also, it makes me nervous to have all that stress on the delicate iPad connector. I tried a generic cable from the 5 dollar store with no avail. I then ordered a TetherPro 30 Pin Dock Extender Cable that claimed it worked with the CCK.

This did not work either. Perhaps it only works with transferring photos.
So before I spend any more money, can anyone confirm that they have an extension cable working in a midi setup.
Thanks,
Wildzeke

You still need an audio +/or MIDI interface, unless it is already built in to whatever you are trying to hook up to the ipad.
Going through a powered hub may also be necessary, again, depending on what other gear you are using.

I am going to a powered USB hub. From there I connect my M-audio midi key board and my Focusrite audio interface. This set up works great, except I need to remove the iPad from the case each time I hook it up.Aural Chaos wrote:You still need an audio +/or MIDI interface, unless it is already built in to whatever you are trying to hook up to the ipad.

I just tested my cable with the CCK and a USB thumbdrive. It did not work. So either I got a defective cable or they sent me the wrong one. I wrote to the retailer about this issue. Hopefully, they will send me a new cable.

I got 2 from eBay: the first one didn't work but the second one works perfectly. And I agree that it's practical: it reduces the strain on the connector and because the one I have has locking clips, it's more secure than just the CCK.
You have to look for a cable that connects ALL the wires from one end to the other. That's the reason some of them don't work. My non-working cable was actually thinner than the working one but pictures can be misleading, so look for this info in the text or ask the seller. If the description says it only allows for a few functions, then it's not the right one.
There were some US online stores selling guaranteed compatible cables but they used to cost a lot more ( something like $40 vs $9; it was still cheaper to try a couple off eBay... ). Maybe they're cheaper now. BTW there's a thread over at the Nanostudio forum that discusses these cables and some links were posted, IIRC.

Hmm. My CCK does have locking clips. It's slightly larger than the charging plug too, which makes it not fit into several cases. Grr.
