It has its pretty moments but it feels a bit directionless. As someone pointed out, some discernable themes and motifs would make it more memorable.

some more:
04_05_markleford_sloppytsunami.mp3
reminds me the chase competition,
cool movie track, best part the synths at start and first break,
after that the drums shows some inconstintency IMHO
05-04-Col.G-UncleEddie.mp3
fun track, I love the spirit of it, a bit cartoonish,
some single sounds could be better
05-04-Emil-A-Man-WhenIwasaChild.mp3
man you got cool voice here, also like the melody,
nice job, it should be longer to get full meaning
05-04-freeztar-Funchno.mp3
only 16 seconds dowloadable here <sigh>
but I like the cat mew downtempo intro
05-04-Torpedo_Torpedo-a_simple_magic.mp3
only 12 seconds downloadable <sigh>
05-04-visatapani---kierre.mp3
in my top ten! very nice the tremolo lead,
the breakbeat at the end is too reverbered IMHO,
I'd see rather glitchy percussions there
05-19-codacoda-Whappen.mp3
the composition works, it's quite nice
but I don't like the sounds used,
or it's the mix?
05-2004-scuzzphut-discussion.mp3
too rock for me, but it sounds great,
so I enjoy listening the sounds
05_04_Barnadine_NewInjuns.mp3
talent and memories, moving!
05_04_DuncanParsons_InDecision.mp3
intersting composition, good grove,
needs a better mix IMHO,
less reverb on sax, tighter toms
05_04_rsmus7_Gitanero.mp3
this is a cool idea, but the mp3 sounds a bit bad here,
seems unwanted overall distortion
05_16_04_7zark7_Mayfly_(full-of-stars-mix).mp3
good freestyle groove, I like it ,
a bit easy the riff but good, the mp3 lacks of brightness
may bee-vurt-may04.mp3
sounds very algorithithmic music,
but got a mood, the breath sound and the
sound at 0:40 got groove

That´s very nice, Wopelka, thank you.Wopelka wrote:sorry, i didn't realize i wrote such a negative comment... you might think i hate your work, but that's not true at all. actually, notwithstanting the static strings, i quite liked your track.AndreasE wrote:Thanks for your critical comment, Wopelka.Wopelka wrote:AndreasEhrhardt
I’m a fan of classical chamber music. I don’t think your track belongs to this category, tho. The strings are not the most convincing i’ve ever heard. You should maybe vary attacks, velocities, and other values a bit more to give more life to the instruments. As you see, the ape is shocked.

Mystahr
A bit of a repetitiveness in here that to my ears took away the sparkle; as if you quickly finished this track of. I’ve heard better from you in the contests. And again I hear that russian/folky angle that makes many of your tunes quite interesting.
you are right, it's quickly finished, I should work more on these entries.
And yes I like that "angle", thanks
yes again I have to say it's not a perfectly solved piece, thanks for the wise commentsMiro
always look forward to your totally original entries (er..that's a compliment! heheh) Love the burbly backing. Wasn't really sure what effect you wanted here. There are suggestions of tension (?), but they're kind of offset by the accordion pulses from 0:38 and the next 8 pedestrian notes that follow until the 1 minute mark.
gloubi-boulga is a crazy thing! as far as I understand french,Wopelka
although the bass is not my cup of gloubi-boulga the accordion is really nice.
Gives a deep feel to the whole song.
glad you like the accordion, intersting that some likes bass and not the accordion
and viceversa for other listeners, <grin>
thanks Freeztar!Freeztar
Cool stuff! I think the song would be stronger without the accordian part during 0:34-0:40. Really cool sounds and a nice ambience. One of my favs! BTW, let us know what you used to get those cool sounds.
for sounds some of my synths ( not to promote them but just cuz I have them handy here )
accordion: Peti
bass: microrok
strings: EVE Mellotron soundSet
drums: vintage box samples

Just back from a long WE.
Thanks for all the reviews...
Huge thanks to Mystahr for the very nice words that touched me.
Making a song with Wilkoryte ??? I don't even know what a Riff is (true !!) I don't want him to become 'agressif'
Thanks to thomasc_dk, Freeztar, Wopelka for the nice words.

Ixox you made me laugh (what is a good thing )
a riff is a kind of repetitive musical phrase
geetar riffs: satisfaction, day tripper ...
if you want geetars for your tracks, no problemo

Fackin’ Awesome. The beginning reminded me a bit of Aerosmith’s “Dream On” (which I love) but yours stays on it’s own original path. I wish it were my entry. So that’s the good news. The bad news is that the vocals could use a little reinforcement and there’s some minor stray deep bumps around 1:26 – they’re probably kick drum hits but they sound out-of-place (like bumping the mic). I love this song. It IS my cuppa.

Some great sounds make this a standout track. I like the burbling waves, the simple percussion and the little e-piano type riff is nice. Deep square wave bass works well, too.
I liked this - I just noticed the cellos - a lot.

thx for listening.. the 'Loop' is a bunch of roots, octaves, fourths and fifths played with the 'Portasynth' preset of Synth1.. I was quite pleased with that in the end.. I don't mind the song being mediocre, many of my decisions are! at least I didn't get a NMCOT! The snare sample is stereo in that the right channel is pitch-shifted and offset by a few samples from the left channel. When I program a flam with another sample as well the sound opens up a bit more. When I add a touch of chorus.. man..! I never use quantise, don't need to when everything's entered using a piano roll, a pushed around from there.. But ta for the in depth review! You™ wrote:"InDecision" Duncan Parsons
What is that loop running through the background of this? It's probably something you concocted, but it reminds me of satellite telemetry. I love that sound, it's so familiar but I haven't heard it in so long.
I think appreciating music is as subjective as it is formalistic but I also think it is possible to take any string of notes and make an interesting song out of them that will please as many as it will offend. That's why creative failure seems to be synonymous with mediocrity. This isn't meant to be a roundabout way of this song is mediocre, but the song doesn't challenge my assumptions. It seems to go almost exactly where I would predict it would go. On a technical note, some of those drum hits sound flammed like the MIDI notes are on top of each other (over-quantized).
Fairy nuff. Glad you like the theme, if not the execution...liqih wrote:05_04_DuncanParsons_InDecision.mp3

"Sloppy Tsunami" Markleford Friedman
You ever hear "Kombinat M?" They didn't have a the synthy stuff but this reminds me of them when they were on their more gonzo jazzy kicks. Or maybe Pig Bag crossed with Orbital
That would funny! Very cool and ambitious piece. The horns aren't the tightest but they work and add a lot of character to this. May favorite is the efx in the fade-out. I could make a whole 'nother song out of just that. Is it fair to like that part the most? You worked harder on the rest and it shows, but some people don't take advantage of the little opportunities afforded in every second of the recording process. I like your attention to detail.
