kinda wierd you ask that, I was gonna sample my tattoo machines running at various speeds/intensities & make em available to ppl here. Well tuned machines like mine make a very distinct harmonic pitch that I can see slicing through any mix. If you're all are lucky, I may even include the customers' screams/grunts of discomfort as a bonus sample group.

for those interested, i found the rradioam plug on this polish website RradioAM (http://www.muzyk.net.pl/muzyk/servlet/Index?id_src=programs&id_tgt=programs&page=6&licence=&category=&program=80), havent tried it yet though. the xoxos plug i wasn't able to find, if anyone can find it, let me know. i found out crystal vst is capable of some nice crackling too, and there's also this fx plug called izotope vinyl, but i guess you all know that one, huh?(link edited by mod to remedy thread being stretched horizontally by a long link - use the () tags folks)

Couldn't you just mic the real thing?
If you want to use your recordings in a VSTi format, you can always play your newly created samples with sfz. The new sfz format would make this a cinch.
Heck, if you have a lot of trouble getting some samples, I could probably make some for you. Just let me know if you want me to record some authentic hums, buzzes, static, and hetrodyning noises for you.
