JohnnyG said it best. The one "serious" thread we had lasted about a week. Then since there is of course nothing to talk about, it died and withered away. Interest in bitwig is kept alive by cats.

Anyways, back to the bashing and free bitwig publicity......

If a thread at a music production forum requires an endless number of cat photos to remain active, perhaps it should not remain active..

I mean, while entertaining, KVR isn't designed for our general entertainment... it is not our playground to act like amused 12 year olds..

I don't see why you can't take the thread to everything else or off topic and continue on with the humor? It is funny at times, but it is not valid news or information for the Hosts forum. And since this is in the Hosts forum, it pops in the latest posts list because, typically, there are useful threads/posts in Hosts. Typically.. this waste of a thread is a big exception.. :dog:
There are about 5 of you that feel that way. You got the last one moved, you'll probably win with this one too.

In the meantime you HAD your serious thread w/o cats, why aren't you posting in that one?
what happened to the other 5?

I ain't five, but I'm around if you were counting me. :D

I no longer feel it should be moved. I now acknowledge that everybody has their own way of expressing their excitement over Bitwig and/or their disappointment that it hasn't been released yet. My low estimation of cats should not keep people with other lifestyle choices from expressing their adulation in a way that speaks from their heart.

Also, unlike what I felt was a really bad streak in this thread's fifties or so, the pics are funnier again.

I am sufficiently disappointed by Live 9 that I don't need BWS to come out tomorrow just to keep me from upgrading. If they take another year but it's solid, fine by me. I have Live 8, Reaper, Renoise and a pile of plugins to keep me busy.

As somebody who had the pleasure of seeing Bitwig at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt and talk to some of the people involved, I don't know where the "vapourware" thing comes from and what the undercurrent of aggression is all about (other than "me wants it now" ;-) ).

My impression was, that they are exactly what they claim they are and doing exactly what they say they do: a small company that tries to get a really cool new product ready for the masses, as rock solid and functional as possible.
Which takes a lot of time and work if you start from scratch.

And there's a lot to love IMO:
The sound of the internal synth was extremely impressive, rivalling some of the best plugins out there. Claes sure knows what he's doing.
The GUI looked fantastic, at the same time inviting and professional - colourful where it helps and laid back where it would be in the way.
The way external controllers are assigned was the most convincing and clever I've seen so far.
There's even a realtime search for plugin parameters if need should be, something I often wished I had with more complex VSTs.
The whole routing for audio, control and modulations is both extremely versatile and powerful while still being just as clear and friendly to use as I could imagine.
Great editing with things like note expression, multiple audio clips inside of loops, combined instrument/audio tracks and an overall really versatile approach to making music give me hope that finally a really nicely thought out modern DAW is coming that stands in between the classic track based approach and the very loop oriented Ableton Live paradigm with nodes thrown in for good measure (in a later version at least).

It should work in the studio just as well as live on stage.

So if it all works out, it should be rather revolutionary.

After the - IMO - really weak Live 9 release, it seems that Ableton at the moment doesn't have the urge, courage or ideas to really innovate with their software. They seem stuck with what they have already.

That Bitwig on first glance looks like a list of missing features in Live is just a very shallow part of the whole as far as my impression goes. They showed a lot of things that can really stand on their own.

So I'm still as curious and excited about Bitwig as I was when I first heard about it :-)
And like wasi, I'm in no hurry at all ;-)

Bring on the cats LOL

Cheers,

Tom

Maybe the bitwig thing is a bit too ambitious. They should have left away Linux support and the 32bit bridge thing and maybe then we were already there.
just my thoughts.

They just announced way too early, that's all. If not for that, all of this harmless ribbing and the cats and all that wouldn't even exist.

The announced in January of 2012 ... and it's now approaching August 2013, 19 months and counting, so sure... they deserve the harmless ribbing for hyping something so hard (like very hard) and taking so long to sell it after saying "Coming Soon" 18 months ago (and counting).

They should have just waited. In what universe on the net would this kind of ribbing wouldn't exist after 18 months?

Nobody is bashing BWS, it looks great. But they kinda brought the jokes on themselves.

MC Scratch already did his album in FL Studio so BWS missed out on a promotional opportunity ...

Jeez man, get your facts straight. He goes by Scratch Lion now and has sworn not to release any new material until he can produce it on Bitwig.
