i just realized that my Presonus Firebox interface isn't going to work with my new computer; apparently it's unsupported for Mountain Lion and even when people get it to work, it doesn't do it well. that sucks, but life is hard sometimes :)

does anyone have any suggestions for an interface that will work with Mountain Lion? i'm not pro, just a guy making music. not going to buy a pricey interface (insert sad face here). I was thinking about just getting an m-audio interface but when I look on the website, it looks like they only have drivers through OSX 10.7.

any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

There are many good ones. I replaced an old FW Solo with a Motu 4Pre and am very happy with it. There are other less expensive options. It really depends on the interfaces you need. Good hunting!

^ what he said

maybe check out ESI....?
http://www.esi-audio.com/products/
I used them for years on a Windows machine, i'm not sure about their Mac drivers tho.
I haven't owned one for a while but went through 3 different ESI cards and they were all great. Nice clean dynamic sound and pretty stable drivers. Pretty much next best and cheapest thing to RME I found.
Personally, I wouldn't touch M-Audio soundcards with somebody else's computer.

I thought the Presonus Firestudio Mobile looked pretty promising for an inexpensive interface. I don't own it, though. Are you sure the ML drivers are kaput?

yeah; their website says it is no longer supported and I have a few friends who have them. they said they can get them to work, but lots of crackly noises and instability issues. i'm thinking Focusrite at this point: decent reviews and they're on top of it with their drivers.

I'm using the FireStudio mobile and as far as sound quality goes I have no issues. The only problem I have is that I have to unplug the unit when I'm not using it becaus it doesnt turn itself off. It's some weird driver error that only happens on my iMac (none of my other computers).

My 6(?) year old original MOTU Ultralite works great on ML so if it ever needs replacing, I'll be going the MOTU route.
