I am not a Logic user, so my opinion doesn't matter that much I guess, but I would have to say that I am not impressed by the new features.

Kind of a tangent, but I can't believe nobody has copied Cubase's Expression Map feature yet. Every time a DAW update is announced, I keep expecting to see someone having implemented their own version, yet Cubase remains the only DAW to have this feature.

Oh well, hope the upgrade works out well for all the Logic-heads out there. :)

Except that it appears to only work on monophonic content. So no equivalent to Melodyne editor with polyphony.

Mostly underwhelmed, haven't been using Logic for ages anyways so won't upgrade. However I like that they merged the concepts of group tracks/folder tracks and instrument racks. You set keyranges and can play the whole group as a single instrument, and also save it as a patch. Logic has been missing this layering ability.

:hihi: I'm sure there will be many detailed threads.

Depending on how they've updated the score editor, the sound library and the audio editing, the Pro X update ranges from way cool to necessary for me. Looking forward to some detailed reviews and Groove 3 videos.

I wonder if they've figured out how to allow non-destructive cropping of the left side of midi regions by dragging over yet, like you can do on the right side. Or if it still stops after an eighth note (or whatever).

Pretty amazing - this really is at least 3 or 4 updates to most DAWs rolled into one. If you look on the Apple page, it's pretty astounding how many basic UI elements have been completely redesigned - settings, right-click dialogues, contextual help... Even "Save" has been completely rethought - it autosaves constantly and creates snapshots (that you can revert to) every time you open the project. The MIDI effects really look nice too - one less reason to jump to the environment.

On the downside, it's probably time for upgraded compressors and EQs.
I've mostly jumped to Reason just because doing basic things is more fun and immediate and less bizarrely wonky (hold down a modifier to move an effect?), so I'm pretty happy that Apple's focus seems to have been exactly on wiping out those annoyances and making a lot more little things user friendly.

Great price for new users, but the fact that there's no discount for existing users sucks.

But, they're Apple, they know that people will buy it.

Yeah i know cause i only switched to a mac 2 months ago and paid £139.99 for Logic 9 and now this appears.. i was pretty miffed but another £139.99 is still cheaper than other Daws so i'll have to pay pfff :-(
It sure looks nice i just hope there's a way to brighten up the colours it's a tad too dark for my old eyes lol

You could always call Apple and see if they'll grant you some kind of grace period. I'm betting they won't, but 10 minutes on the phone wouldn't cost too much.

Anyone know if installing X will trounce the existing 9 install? I would hope not, but I started with 9 and don't know quite what to expect from Apple.

Good idea mate but i reckon £139+£139 is still a bit cheaper than Cubase 7 and a few other Daws so i'll bite the bullet. I'm just glad to see it's out after reading a lot about Pro X.
Think i'll just knuckle down and use this to forget about all the nightmares that was Cubase 7.0.5 :-(
Anyways will get it tonight for sure and i'm pretty excited about it too :-)
