Been looking at Logic recently, can anyone comment on its Scoring/Notation features compared to say Cubase or Finale/Sibelius?

Thanks for the review, TheoM - that's exactly the point of view I won't get from reading magazines or review sites, but it matters way more than the hype. I'm pretty glad that they didn't overhaul the UI, tbh, especially after what they did to FCP. But the audio engine, seriously? That seems like a pretty glaring issue that should have been top priority. I've been getting more into Logic over the past few years as I've done more audio for video, but I'm definitely not committed to it. I was excited for this, but I'm not paying $200 unless I see a feature I really want to upgrade for. So far, there's not much.

Looks like I'll be waiting for a few updates, or maybe just going to Digital Performer.

I was looking forward to this release as the last Logic version I used was I think 5.5 on OS9. However, I loved Logic then and only reluctantly switched to Cubase and Windows due to Apples sluggish hardware update cycle. After reading all the reviews so far and this thread I will stay with Cubase 7 on MAC as my main DAW. The features added to Logic seem for the most part to already be in Cubase, and many features in Cubase are still not in Logic. For Example, Cubase bridge handles all my 32 bit only plugs like Speakerphone and Sylenth without issue and I love note expression.

Shame too as I have heard such good things about Logic's performance compared to Cubase on the MAC. GAS is not taking over this time, sigh...

Thanks for the info Theo... Was contemplating this too, with a bad case of GAS. I can definitely wait though.

Mainly I was hoping for some better integration between editing in FCPX and audio post in LX, but until I hear different, I'm guessing nothing has changed.

And on the Steinberg side... After a terrible Wavelab experience on Mac, I won't go down that route. I absolutely loved Wavelab on PC and Cubase looks great, but to keep things short, I hated my experience so no Cubase for me unless I switch to PC as my primary system.

Joke? Looks like one at least. I saw Rob Lee's post, so maybe he's up for a try, but this looks like someone having fun pouring salt in wounds.

It's not ugly at all. It's a huge improvement in GUI compared to Logic 8 or 9, and it looks great with the darker colours. The GarageBand GUI look is slick and modern, and easy on the eyes.
Finally Logic actually got proper coloured metering in mixer and in the channels view, that actually shows the correct value! Hell froze over!
Midi fx is a nice feature.
The ES2, EXS24 Mk2, still has the same old ugly and dated 90's look, and no new or interesting features. Weird and pretty disappointing!
They could have redesigned ES2 and EXS24, but just seems to have ignored them both.
They bought RedMatica, but I see nothing of it in Logic Pro X.
Open the new arpeggiator, or any other new plugin, and then ES2, or other older plugin, put them side by side. Look at the huge buttons and window next to the older plugin windows. OMG!
There's the ugly, and the inconsistency in looks.
Plenty of things to fix in there as I see it.

They also kept the dated environment functionality to not piss off all the old people.
My 25 min with it, and as it is in it's current version, I will not buy it.

Back to Logic, I have version 9 with SL but THIS made me take the decision to buy mini mac soon instead of the planned Dell notebook. I won't buy any damn soft synth/instrument anymore! With Logic X every synth and host looks overpriced!

I've been watching the introductory tutorials on macprovideo.com and I must say the ipad remote app is pretty intriguing. It's closely woven with Logic and goes well beyond what the current DAW remote apps are doing. I just wish they would give us a skinning option to keep the original look and feel.
