I really, really wish they would have updated the UIs for the included instruments and fx. Ultrabeat is still as fugly as ever.

I love Ultrabeats interface. And all the other included instruments like Sculpture and ES2. Really work for me. I've never like any interfaces more except for may Fabfilter's. Only thing is I wish they could've had one person working for two weeks to take the graphics into Photoshop and increase the resolution and clean up the interfaces and make them more compatible with the new hosts interface! Instead of this, when you scale them up, they get soft and fuzzy. Pretty irritating.

There are a lot of tweaks the the new interace that are really intuitive for me. Unlike 9. I really like the help window and how you can detach it and the reorganization of where everything is located.

I know i am in the minority but i love this update. i will say, however, i was always a Garageband user, so i am highly biased. i can definitely see how some users who like advanced functions and were expecting higher level user upgrades would be dissappointed. My main thing with DAWS is ease of use, decent sounds and practical GUI workflow, which is why i liked Logic to begin with, i found it pretty straightforward. This update has greatly enhanced alot of my pet peeves with Logic 9 that hindered my workflow, mainly how the regions were handled, it seems moving, merging and generally working with regions always seems quirky to me, it never felt "solid". That was the first thing i noticed about this update was that the main sequencer pane immediately felt more advanced and rock solid as it pertains to overlapping regions, cut/paste, resize, etc.

The sound engine is pretty much the same, but the newer instruments are better and more modern, imo, especially the drums. i will admit they seem to have gone for a more "user friendly" look and feel, but since none of the previous functions have been left out, i don't care. I personally find the new GUI more pleasing to look at for extended periods...

Not a major update, i would think they would have added pattern based recording, or chord track, or some major Ableton-like feature, but it's not anything major from what i've scene feature wise, but it's 100% easier and more intuitive to work in that's for sure!

I could defenitely go on with quite some other things, just that I don't have enough time right now (moving houses...).

here's what I just don't get.. We have people in the community that I would listen to if I were designing a DAW. A wealth of experience. Everything you need. Instead it seems like Apple is so secretive. Like they probably only listen to a handful of carefully picked people to determine what how Logic progresses. I just don't understand this. Maybe they have to because of the sheer volume possibility, BUT, I'm probably mistaken but I think I could read these forums and immerse myself in what a large variety of work styles and come up with a package that in more satisfying. Very experienced people are making lists of improvement and often they overlap. I think I'd start there.

I know this is all tied in with their "marketing" to some degree. Not sure if that compromises what they can do and where they spend their money and time. Always surprising.

The other problem with Logic Pro is that the updates have always been few, and also had a very long time between the releases. Logic Pro 8's major update was Logic Pro 9, and after that, not much really happened for a very long time. I hope it won't be the same thing with LPX.
I will wait and see how this develops, and follow what they are really planning for LPX.

Not that I am impressed with LPX but I think it is really funny how people communicate here. Not a lot of updates - well - maybe - but as Apple is doing the hardware, the OS and the DAW they do not need to update the software itself (as Steinberg or others have to) to update or fix some functionality used by Logic. They have multiple layers which play together and there were quite some OS updates over the last years that fixed issues in Logic. Others would have to release a update to their DAW to achieve the same result.

I guess no one here can say what actually changed in the code or the code of the engine.

Personally I also would have liked to see better MIDI editing (editing in place like in DP, Cubase or ProTools, something like VST Expressions), better audio editing (clip volume, 32bit audio read/write), etc.
The interesting bits are the MIDI scripting plugin, Track Stacks, remote .....

let's see how they enhance it with the next updates ...

What is interesting is that the gap between Logic, Cubase and DP is currently getting bigger again, whereas over the last decade they got more and more similar -> I would also perceive them heading in different directions. For Logic I still feel that the editing workflow is not on a pro level. It becomes more and more a design and creative working toolset - maybe the least to be considered pro in audio engineering but with environment and the new MIDI scripting plugin quite interesting for sound design.

i'm in the app store now debating whether to hit buy on this but there's soooo much negatives here about LPX i may stick with LP9 for a bit. I'm new to this DAW so going by all the banter on here it doesn't look like it's a big deal to upgrade right now but maybe some positive comments can sway me. I still have C7 on the Mac with LP9 so if anyone really is enjoying the new LPX speak now cause i'm on that button lol

I'm using it now for a song I'm working on and I really love the interface. Its really comfortable. And my AU Reaktor plugin doesn't crash like it did with the same ensemble loaded in Studio One and Ableton Live! Not sure if that means anything but I was thrilled to discover this cause I was stuck due to the crashes.

All in all, if they can update and work out some of the issues mentioned in this thread, including some of the legacy problems, it'll be great. I'm assuming they will since that is what happened with Final Cut Pro X over time. They seem to listen "after the fact". I knew I was going to get it anyways since I was still on Logic 8, so I sprang now and very glad I did. The real key for me is which DAW do I go to first without thinking about it. It has been Studio One but this is feeling pretty nice.

The lack of new creative instruments is a disappointment for me. Got spoiled at the included instruments being so amazing in the past. But I can imagine if you were new to computer music production and could get this functionality for only $200, that would be a dream come true. I'm not complaining about the price since that is the average cost of one instrument plugin like Diva etc..

Thanks for the info mate. As i said i'm brand new to mac and Logic and i just bought LP9 in April. So basically i gotta learn all about how it works anyways so i'm thinking another £139 might be a good investment.
Was gonna hit buy last night till old THEO showed up with his summing up lol.

Oh well i reckon i'll just buy it. I might as well cause i'm new to the DAW anyways so here we go

Considering you just bought LP9, why not wait until discounted Apple Gift Cards are available?

I purchased FCPX, Motion and LP9 this way. At the time, BestBuy had the gift cards discounted by 20%, and you can stack the cards to equal the full amount. Unfortunately the tax is on the full amount, not the discounted gift card amount.

It was no hassle... just a matter of finding the sale. But if your GAS is that strong, then might as well just buy.

Nice idea mate but this £139 is burning a hole in my pocket and i'm liking the look of the gui etc.. i'm in the store now and if i don't buy it i'll just blow it on beer and horses lol.. buying now and spend some time with it.

I'm also pretty new to Mac/Logic, having just bought my MacBook Air in Feb and Logic in April IIRC. I was just starting to really get used to Logic 9 when X was announced, and there were really only two things about L9 that bugged the hell out of me: (1) L9's stupid implementation of track folders, and (2) the inability to move aux buses around in the mixer view. Logic X fixed the former with track stacks, but not the latter. To me, though, the new track stacks are a huge benefit, since I'm only using Logic on my MacBook Air, and screen real estate is very valuable to me. Well, not to mention that I'm just used to using track folders in my other DAWs and because I'm the most anal SOB in the world when it comes to keeping projects organized in my DAW.

Aside from those two issues, I was really still in the honeymoon stage with Logic and I hadn't used it long enough to be annoyed by much else, so Logic X is like a second honeymoon. I definitely prefer it over Logic 9 already.
