Logic Pro X

I am such a beeyatch. Just pulled the trigger on this after much nay saying last night.

As a decidedly non-pro user who uses Logic for songwriting and personal demo's, I'm actually excited about Drummer and some of the other new options, and I like the 'bolt on's' they've added to make some of the core midi stuff more intuitively useable. Bass amp will be fun to play with (with an actual bass guitar) although I'm already very happy with the no frills bass amp in L9. Try making a 2 stage amp with that, with one of the DI emulators going into a bass amp emulator. Very nice sounding, even if the gui for the plugs is bare bones.

Still sad about the LX gui changes, but boo hoo poor me. I hope someday they'll offer a 'retro' skin option, but that's neither here nor there. L9 will remain on the hard drive.

The long standing legacy issues that some of the hardcore users rightfully bemoan make me a bit uneasy and I really hope that Apple addresses these sometime soon, even if they don't (yet, at least) affect my personal workflow.

And so, 20 hours after saying "I ain't downloading this", the download is under way.

Honestly, with an upgrade price of $200, how can I say no?

Can't you try to sort of hide your auxes using a track stack? Just taking a guess here because I won't be able to get LPX for a while to come (my computer isn't suitable).

Yeah, that was one of the first things I tried when I got X, but it doesn't really work because it follows the arrange view. If the aux tracks are showing in the arrange view and the folder is collapsed (i.e., no aux tracks showing), then the mixer will only show the collapsed folder (i.e., the aux tracks are not visible in the mixer view). More of a hassle than it's worth. That's OK, I've learned to deal with it by using project templates.

I'm playing with it now and ... really liking it! One minor but irksome bugfix I can happily confirm has been fixed. In L9, if I opened it on any desktop other than the root (first) desktop, certain graphic anomalies would occur. For example, when mousing over to drag a audio audio clip by the upper right hand corner to loop it, the loop icon wouldn't appear. In other ways (many) the mouse icon would get stuck and be inappropriate for whatever task I was actually performing. This no longer appears to be the case, which is nice.

Not that I am impressed with LPX but I think it is really funny how people communicate here. Not a lot of updates - well - maybe - but as Apple is doing the hardware, the OS and the DAW they do not need to update the software itself (as Steinberg or others have to) to update or fix some functionality used by Logic. They have multiple layers which play together and there were quite some OS updates over the last years that fixed issues in Logic. Others would have to release a update to their DAW to achieve the same result.

I think other daws are using OS libraries too...

Interesting read in this thread on the Logic X release. I'll wait to upgrade until Marvericks gets released. As I'm still on Lion so don't see the point in upgrading an OS twice within a 1/2 a year.

I also found it hard to believe the poster who stated that there was no improvements to the engine, that logic X is purely a a UI change with a few bolt ons.. It's early days and the full picture of whats been done can surely first be asertained when several experienced users have upgraded to Logic X..

Glad to see movement for apple on Logic..

I don't own Logic (S1 user). I wonder if there's a point for me to buy MainStage? It seems like it includes tons of content and the plugins from Logic for like $30. Do you need to also own Logic to be able to use Mainstage and all its plugins?

Oh, yeah - is that the mixer they release the point updates for and it still does not work? As well as simple audio playback without glitches ... Well , at least not prepared to pay for the same old glitches there - since SX 1 with every update ...

Nope. With Mainstage you get all the plug-ins and 40 GB content too.

Logic Pro X seems promising. Probably the best DAW ever. If I'm ever going to get a Macbook, I will surely use Logic Pro X.
