Anybody heard the difference in audio on the latest 10.8.4?

Am I the only one?

This can be destructive for serious audio work.

Also, as of 10.8.4, OS X does not support USB 3.0 audio still.
This issue is due to Apple not yet having a USB 3.0 audio class driver in OS X

Looks like still not ready for audio.

I using my Mac Pro for mastering and I just made one test more with Bias Peak app.
Master that I created few years ago sounds correct on the 10.6.8 and the same master on the 10.8.4 suddenly
on the singers voice have problem with ess. It needs de-esser.

I listened wave files from iTunes on both system and I can say there is difference with the same RME drivers and all the same settings BTW two OS.

They boosted high's and hi-mids definitely.
The kick has no the same lower end level, like on the 10.6.8

I am using Fireface 800 with the latest drivers.

I found the that users on USB and Firewire interfaces have this problem since Lion OS 64 bit.
Mastering engineers cares more about this issue.

So there is SRC behind the scenes on the 64 bit OS on Apple Mac's.
TDM is not using AudioCore driver so Pro Tools users are not affected.

Snow Leopard OS is running audio on 32 bit and newer OS Lion, and Mountain Lion are 64 bit CoreAudio driver.

Back to 10.6.8

If you mastering on 10.6.8 it will sound OK, but when listening on 10.8.4,
the biggest problem is sibilance on the main vocal.
High frequencies are boosted a little bit and lower bass information is lower in level.
Apple changed CoreAudio driver for 64bit OS, Lion and M.Lion.
Some people are affected and some people are not.
I am in contact with RME audio team now, maybe the problem is in the FF 800 driver. We will see.

It's because they replaced the Curtis chip in Snow Leopard's drivers with some DSP in Mountain Lion's drivers.

Seems like all that is needed is some clever bloke to come up with the terminal commands to switch the DSP features off....

Keep us posted what you find out, even if it's nothing at the end.

For the record the built-in interface on my new MBP Retina is definitely have sibilance to chop my head off at louder volume, though I do not have the same problem when going thru my Apogee ONE.

No it started with Lion OSX.
