Hmmmm, did I do something wrong on the install maybe... my d/l was under 5gb (if I remember) but my Kontakt 5 library is less than 4gb? Or is it just maybe that Kontakt lib's are kept compressed on your disk maybe? I'm only halfway to 8gb!

Am downloading now. I registered and was sent confirmation for that.
I was able to generate an activation code on the site but so far no email with any serial number. Is the activation code I generated on the site all I need to make it work, or do I need another number delivered to me in an email?

Yes. The uncompressed sample pool is about 8 GB, but using lossless compression that Kontakt offers, the library goes down to 3.7 GB.

The activation code is all you need, you just enter it in the NI Service Center application.

So, you can use it with the Player version of Kontakt?
Almost too good to be true!

Yes, you can.

Very surprised that this is free - NI normally insists on minimum retail prices for third-party Kontakt Player libraries.

I suspect Sennheiser had a $$$ deal with NI. It's not that they can't afford it.

Well, they say in the FAQ that one reason for registering is, that they need to tell NI how many users there are, so I guess they pay per user.

I just don't think I've seen such a promotional, free, Kontakt-Player-enabled Library before. May become a trend if it works out for them... ;-)

The first half of my download only went at about 1/3 of my full speed, but then it picked up. It's nearly 5GB in size, so however long that takes your connection. 9 hours doesn't surprise me, at least if you have DSL or something midrange like that.

It's possible that Native Instruments is experimenting here with new options. Even if Sennheiser doesn't have to pay per user, it's possible that NI just wants to keep tabs on how successful the campaign is. Or there is some type of cross promotional effort going on, and NI wants to know how much advertising they will get, or whatever.

But even if they did pay a license per user, it still may be worth it(though nobody really knows, obviously). I mean, think about traditional advertising. You may get your banner ad or billboard in front of literally tens of thousands of people in a matter of days. Of those people, you may have 100 who actually click on the ad or go to your website.

With this, Sennheiser has a 100% "click rate". So everyone who "sees" the ad, or in other words they download the marketing materials(the drum kit), they have to visit the website. Every time they use it, they see the names, pictures and descriptions of the microphones being used. They get not only visual advertising, but also audible advertising as you hear the quality of the microphones and the samples. So the percentage of people who see and interact with the marketing material is literally 100%. In marketing, that's a total win.

So we'll see how it goes. Maybe other companies will do the same.
