I'm still hazy about Spire. I have the demo sitting in my plugin folder, sometimes I fire it up along with Sylenth and compare them face to face. They obviously have different character, but I can't say any of them sounds obviously better than the other one. Spire has smoother sound and clearer high freqs, while Sylenth sounds bigger, ballsier and more "dramatic". I tend to prefer Sylenth somehow, however this may be due to the great soundsets I have, while with Spire there are only the factory lib and my own attempts at making patches.

Thanks God, I'm on Win and have no urge to replace Sylenth with anything.

I can run Diversion on my PC just fine. Ok, I can't load as many instances as I can with Sylenth, but still quite a workable synth. Spire is a league of its own when it comes to CPU spiking.

PascalVB wrote:Sylenth1 is a good synthesizer with low CPU requirements, but it sounds a bit harsher and less "smooth" than Spire.
For that there's already the smoother & creamier sounding DUNE. That's my beef with Spire - there are already excellent choices available, why waiting for promises to become reality? At least that's how I see it :)

How many factory presets are included in this synth? The Demos sounds amazing. Downloading the demo au now.

Post

I really wish factory presets weren't such a demanded feature of synths, but I spend a lot of time making my own in synths, and generally don't care about them.

As a result I am on the fence about this synth. If Sylenth1 was updated to 64bit, I would likely go for it, but the lack of ongoing support leaves me feeling uncomfortable parting with my cash for it. I've tried DUNE but I wasn't very impressed by it, and dislike the overly dark interface, and generally found the sound muddy. Spire seems to be very much in a different category but parallels are being drawn. The demo's sound alright, I was more impressed when I got in and tried the synth demo itself, but it still sounds thin in terms of low end thickness and the filters sound nowhere near as organic.

Really really on the fence on this, and I don't know what I need to convince me.

I want to check out the updated demo w/the arp.

Trying the demo now...very impressed for proggy/big room sounds

How long does the discounted price run for?

Post

I just had an email from Reveal saying that 1.0 with the arp module will be ready in about 3-4 weeks.

Trying to get info on the CPU issue now.

only 128
128 isn't too bad considering its a fairly young Synth.
As a positive side effect it invites user experimentation which is highly rewarding.

I also think a Synth becomes way more fun when you gain control over it and are
able to coax certain sounds from it. You know ...when you hear a sound in your head and are able to roughly approximate it within the Synth itself.
That's a cool feeling for sure :)

128 + 21 :P
For the stepper there is a additional bank with 21 presets. To handle a lot more presets it would be helpful to have a more usable preset browser with some sorting (by author, type, bank etc).

just tried the demo and... it is indeed CPU heavy. not saying it is unplayable but kills my Q6600 with one instance playing 8 notes using some patches.

GUI is clear though and it sounds solid. well done!

Post

That Q6600 is pretty old. It's what I'd call a "by-gone" CPU. It's lived it's life. I had one but changed it 2 years ago.

Even the most modest current i5 will wipe the floor with that one. Like 4 to 6 times faster I'd think.

Cheers!

There is also some vintages presets in the Zodiac song demo. So if you download that there is 3 banks available for now (factory, zodiac minibank and step seq minibank).

For now I have 42 presets programmed, but they still needs a lot of tweaking to be perfect (to my taste !). And maybe two of them are using the step seq. So for now I paused a little bit and wait for the arp. Also sometimes I have clicks and pops when I play lots of notes that I can't get rid off , no mater how I tweak the envelopes so I guess there is something wrong with the voices handler.
When I'll have 128 useable presets I will try to release my first bank but I need to consider the legal side, to make a website and a lot of others stuff I guess because it will be the first time I'm doing this.

To come back to the synth itself I would like to be able to route the distortion output into the filters... ok I know there is a filter into the distortion but it has no resonance control and u can't choose the filter type.

I also would like more filter types to choose from for the main filters.

The last update is buggy too for me, crashes in reaper.

I don't know if some are half deaf or are running budget monitors. Spire sounds THIN. But if you are looking for Da SuperSawz... I admit this is one synth to use (at a big CPU cost by the way).

I will never purchase it because developers want to stay anonymous and never explained why. Also... money goes to Belize which is very suspicious for me.

EVERYTHING is opinion. you find it thin, i find it EDGY. i have a plugin i think is TOO thick, my production partner loves it for being FAT.

i don't care if my money goes to belize, or cuba...or new jersey. am interested in what i WANT. if u check the personal lives, politics, social viewpoints of the people who own the corporations we live off of, and didn't support the ones you don't personally like...there'd be nothing to buy...

just saying :D
