Alternatives to Absynth?

I don't think there are any alternatives to Absynth. Alchemy is similar but it's not the same by a long shot. I like the 'scientific' feel of Alchemy.
I hear those 'clicks' (exaggerated attack noise) too, but can't it be fixed by slightly lenthening the envelope?

Have had Komplete 9 for almost a week now. ATM, it seems a little useless. I am surprised that what I like best is Battery though. Very solid and nice sounding percussion. There are a few sounds in Kontakt I can immediately get behind too (but not the pianos). Trying to go through sounds of their different synth elements acually seems to make me want to use other company synths more. Korg Mono/Poly over Monark; AAS UA1 & Tassman over Reaktor; Alchemy & Rapture over Absynth. And Garritan Instant Orchestra over Kontakt's Session Strings. But I bought Komplete for Kontakt and I already know some of the third party sounds I want to try in it. (i.e. PrecisionSounds; Vir2; Indiginus to start). But I'm open and on the look out for sounds that separate Absynth and Reaktor apart from the rest without being so sterile. (Or just house DJ noise).

A good technical comparison but sonically very different.Sampleconstruct wrote:With the big difference that Absynth has a granular engine and a (very basic) sample player which most other "synths" don't have. So the only comparison would be Alchemy really.
The effects in Absynth are a big part of its unique sound and why there really is no sonic equivalent.
It has its own sound...

The filters and the waveshapers/modulators are my faves - mind you, I have no idea what the "cloud" and the "supercomb" filters actually scientifically do. But they can really help sculpt a sound.PatchAdamz wrote:A good technical comparison but sonically very different.Sampleconstruct wrote:With the big difference that Absynth has a granular engine and a (very basic) sample player which most other "synths" don't have. I remember demoing Absynth 2 (way back when. It was really nice, good sounds, and I really can't think of anything else like it. I still want it, 10 years later (yikes
), but only when I'm rich, famous, and beautiful. The first two will never happen.

Funny thread - of course there's no alternative to Absynth.

Are there alternatives? Yes, of course there are, there are many synths that can be used for ethereal pads, soundscapes etc.
Is there a synth that can do exactly the same sounds? No, there isn't.

Took a couple of hours to really try and explore Absynth last night. It definitely has some very nice presets in it. I can even see using it because of its low CPU usage. As someone else said though, it being a juxtaposition to other instruments in my arsenal rather than a compliment in the blend, it kind of becomes specialized in its use right now. But I still have to give it to Alchemy as being the superior sounding instrument that adds, compliments and blends to the rest. I think with a little more time though, I will eventually find more love in this NI VST.
