Yeah I bought that one and the one before it ESCM which I like a lot. A touch of nostalgia about that album for me and it was when he was still more underground and unknown and not the pop star he is today. I didn't even know what he looked like until the early 2000s. The European cover for MISL didn't have him on the front like the US cover, tacky as hell.Numanoid wrote:Movement In Still Life is a masterpiece in my opinion.lotus2035 wrote:I liked BT's early stuff. I bought two of his albums years ago but then lost touch with the later stuff.
His earlier stuff is interesting, but doesn't quite make the grade.
On his later stuff he has decided to add a lot of vocal, which is completely against my wishes, so I stay clear off that
But let me repeat that Movement In Still Life is a masterpiece

I get why this is being criticized, but maybe that's why people like him are so productive. Because they don't run around in forums bashing everything.masterhiggins wrote: He's the audio equivalent of Michael jordan. He endorses f***king everything.

...but it's worth it for the album version of "Never Gonna Come Back Down", "Fibonacci Sequence" and the Hybrid mix of "Godspeed".

Agreed. It literally was the only album I listened to for about a year to 18 months after I bought it...2001 IIRC. I had his two earlier albums and liked some tracks, disliked others, but it was a great period in my life, so lot's of good memories! Tori Amos on Blue Skies, etc.Numanoid wrote: Movement In Still Life is a masterpiece in my opinion.
Flaming June will always be ingrained in my being somehow. It was actually the Oakenfold remix of Olive's You're Not Alone and BT's Flaming June on an old '98(?)mix cd that sold me on electronic/trance music.
Before that it was Joe Satriani all the way, just an amazing mind and technique behind the music. So, I suppose I have grunge to thank for switching me on to Virus and all things synthy
Actually before Satch I was into Depeche Mode, Erasure, synthy 80s pop, so I've always had a fascination with synths.
Anyhoo...
Re the 'publicity whore' reputation, I think it's unfortunate...hence the grains of salt....here, catch Nielzie!
But if you watch interviews of him he comes across as down to earth and just loving what he does with renewed enthusiasm everyday.
Playing to the media? Sure, quite possibly. But i think his biggest flaw is his unbridled enthusiasm and love for what he does and the tools he uses to do it.
I've actually had some pretty nasty health issues over the last year, and I go to sleep almost every night listening to This Binary Universe. I know that sounds terrible (like relaxing ocean sounds) but it's some of the most soothing music around, immersive glitches like a forest of creatures, and lots of acoustic instrumentation too. I only listen to 3 of the 5 tracks, the jazzy stuff never gelled for me. But they play on loop until my headphones fall off my head.
BTW, if you want bearably comfortable headphones for sleeping I can recommend the Sennheiser HD201's. I haven't strangled myself on the cord yet. hehe!

If he is working on Apple, I guarantee he would have fewer difficulties getting z3ta+ 2 to run than the original.Numanoid wrote:BT's main foundation seems to be the apple platform, and seeing how much problems it has been with the z3ta+ 2 mac version, I doubt he has upgraded yetPerimeter Sound wrote:Maybe he meant z3ta 2 ?Numanoid wrote:z3ta+, it's over 10 years old now
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

He regularly gets angry tweets from angry BT customers complaining of the service.
Must be equalling annoying and amusing.

Here's some more on his setup: http://hangout.altsounds.com/gear/16048 ... at-bt.html
I kinda like him. Yeah, sometimes he's "endorsing" too many things. But he seems genuine and enjoying what he does.
Anyway... From his new tracks Skylarking is amazing:
