i don't care if my money goes to belize, or cuba...or new jersey. am interested in what i WANT. if u check the personal lives, politics, social viewpoints of the people who own the corporations we live off of, and didn't support the ones you don't personally like...there'd be nothing to buy...

just saying :D
Yes, yes. Each to his own of course.

But don't get my words wrong. I won't support the developers because I was treated like my question did not exist for them. A simple answer like "we avoid paying tax in Russia that way" would be OK for me.

And it's not THAT hard to say who you are. Hiding it when offering a commercial product is not OK in my book simply because it's clear they are not doing something "good".

Anyways, most people don't give a crap about all this and will purchase it anyways.

seriously, tho. do you follow the money on all your purchases? i would not let that stop me from buying something i really want...UNLESS i knew the money was specifically going into sweatshops, or something equally horrific.

not revealing something is not the same as lying.

hey, whatever works...

If they try to avoid taxes then why do I have to pay 13.11 euro taxes on top of the 69 euro price

Even the most modest current i5 will wipe the floor with that one. Like 4 to 6 times faster I'd think.

My Mac Mini is a 2.5ghz i5 and a single Spire pad patch maxes it out if I play with both hands.

I can't see a reason for it to be so high, even higher than Diva, by some way.

Post

Can you name the exact pad preset that takes the most CPU? I'd be interested in comparing it to my i7 quad core. I have yet to find a pad patch which is even remotely close to DIVA (in "divine" quality mode) CPU usage.

DIVA is the definite king of CPU munching on my system. Nothing comes even close to it.. well except perhaps FXpansion Synth Squad. Cypher in 8x oversampling can be a real killer too.

I suspect Spire is just poorly optimized or something as it seems to vary a lot in how the CPU usage changes from system to system.

Cheers!

I can't remember what | was using as I've already uninstalled the demo for now. Demos with white noise really get on my nerves as well :hihi:

I do recall a couple of the leads spiking at about 50% CPU with relatively busy but monophonic melodic sequences.

yeah, am seeing this too (spire in logic X); pads, stuttering... i really like this one, but won't buy it until they DO get the cpu usage down. THEN, i WILL buy it..!

@ bmanic

Q6600 is old, no doubts. but so far it handles quite a lot of things so no point to change it from my perspective. spire is in minority of plugins, which strained my comp's cpu to date. hence, i can't justify spending money on upgrading the hardware for one or two plugs.

Post

Tried the demo. I have a quad core AMD 64 bit. In FL with polyphony set to 1, the pads were running @ 70% CPU. One hit 97%. This was a pretty complex chord though. Flashbacks to Synth Squad. Have to pass.. Nice GUI.

IMO Spire is using some kind of component modelling and/or internal oversampling of all or some DSP blocks (filters?).

On my i7 3770 the patch "PD Hid Lights" has a average VST load on Cubase 7 between 20 and 30% while playing a accord (3 notes in a loop with a length of 4 bars). This patch doesn't use Unison.

According to the task manager, Cubase idle needs about 0-2% CPU (there are always some background operations) and running the project with this patch needs about 7%... so I would say this patch has a 5% CPU usage.
=> 5% CPU /20-30% VST

If I compare this to Diva:
Diva with Multi-threaded enabled needs _more_ CPU but not so much VST load.
The patch "HS Angel Wings" needs about < 20% VST performance with multi-threaded enabled, with MT disabled it jumps between 30 and 70% VST performance(!)
=> 15% CPU / < 20% (multi-threaded disabled: 9% CPU / up to 70% VST)

So, multi-thread support could be some of the suggested optimization for Spire.

One thing I did notice is changing the # of voices on the synth didn't seem to make much difference for CPU.
My computer will run a stacked Omnisphere patch at @ 20%...

Great job so far guys!

Really enjoying the stepper, and the flexibility of the routing.

I'm happy I got in early because when it all comes together, it's going to be a favorite for me.

Best regards,

Gino

I'm testing different stuff right now with Spire and it's crazy, sometimes it remembers me to my Virus. Spire is capable to create this signature "Unison" sound of the Virus very well. I played a bit with Spire Plucks and Lead sounds.

It's not only Spire and it's not a complete track, more a idea but the main lead and the higher pluck is Spire.
