Hey, it's KvR. Never expect people to comment on the actual merits of a product.

Gosh, this thing IS rather good.

Lightyears better than i expected because more often than not what you get is something that sounds like 808, but in a quality that makes you wonder 'what in the hell did they record that with?' because it has about the fidelity of a walkman recording.

But not this one. It sounds really really good, absolutely solid, and it remains good no matter how you change/set the parameters. Definitely one of the best ive heard so far, if not THE best.

Like i said, i didnt expect this at all, the only downside is that it eats a good chunk of RAM, which can become a problem on low-RAM machines.

PS: Heres the Free vs. Pro diffs:

I use Wave Alchemy(Sounds Outside The Lines) Revolution 808/909, I also have Nepheton/Drumazon and recently got hold of a good/mint Novation Drumstation, but I'm 808 mad a bit, wonder how this stacks up against them. Downside of Revolution 808/909 is that it is also a ram hog, has this new one sampled every parameter or is it just tweaking static samples?

Im not fully sure, but i guess so, or at least for the most part.

Heres what the adblurb says:
It is equipped with a waveform of 2,134 Total number of sampling was carried out carefully in 24-bit/96kHz while parameters change little by little, the sound of all instruments of actual TR-808. From that, sound is pronounced by selecting / resynthesis the best one according to the note-on velocity value and position of the knob of the VR-08 panel is 808 sound itself exactly.
It is contributed to Yes performing smoothing processing and rising edge detection technology of its own important attack portion impression with the rhythm instrument in particular, it feels the "smell of digital" sampling sound source general, the moment to attack when It's to reduce the aliasing noise generated only.
(Obviously auto-translated from Japanese. Full text here.)

PS: Regarding the RAM Usage; I discovered that disabling a channel (clicking its name at the bottom) actually removes the sampledata from RAM. In other words if you disable all but the Kick and the Snare then only the Kick and the Snare samples will be present in RAM. Upon reenabling a channel the sampledata simply gets reloaded. Thats very cool because it can help a lot on low-RAM machines where every byte of memory counts...

Just started testing the free version of VR-08. Sounds and works great so far as a VST in Ableton Live 9 32-bit.

A double-click on any of the knobs sets the default value.

That's a cool function - this is probably what is going wrong with Kontakt 5/Revolution 808/909 as I always load the full kits as I have all the parameters mapped to my Remote Zero SL MKII.

However on this UI I saw far more parameters(knobs) than the real 808 at a glance - this is off putting as for me personally an emulation is there to replace something I could not afford and I'd want a 1:1 emulation that reacts the same as the hardware mostly, then channel off is a good exception to this.

Says the full version is lower on CPU!

However I'm not impressed by the UI, looks very cheap/freeware-ish, needs a Limeflavour facelift or something.

Samples don't surpass Nepheton by that much. The tone is there, but d16 needs to polish up the synthesis a bit.
