In other words: They will ban your ass in case you come along as being too much critical about Apple. Just as the current "LUG" (Logic Users Group). The reasons are easy to understand: Both forums are run by active betatesters. And Apple doesn't accept betatesers who accept criticism - or run forums which would have a potential for Apple criticism. Really, it's as easy as that.
And yes, I'd take ANY bet on that.

I hold no opinion about both forums, but I am willing to criticize their so call betatesting, which surely involves nothing more than putting cats in front of Logic. The amount of bugs that slip thru L9 release/updates in the first 2 yrs were ridiculous.

2 months ago and purchased Logic 9 then this version dropped out of nowhere
I would be pissed about that. Not telling their customers any news is not good form. Apple seem to treat all their customers with disdain. Yet the users stay loyal to them. It's like Stockholm syndrome.

If you call Apple, most likely you get either a refund or the new version.

You would think so wouldn't you :)

But your guess is wrong in this case.

Someone already tried that (pretty sure it was rob). They posted the transcript of the support call. Basically the person wasn't listening to what he was saying and then politely told him he needs to purchase it again.

I would think the decent thing to do would be to upgrade his license to the new version and refund him the price difference. But nope. Not Apple. The don't care. It's a missed opportunity for them to show good character. To companies like apple, their users are just resource endpoints. While this is not unusual, most companies would give their customers some heads up if a new product was coming out at least. That support call transcript just adds insult to injury. Not like it would be a huge loss for them to give a handful of users a license upgrade and a partial refund. It would be worth more than many thousands in advertising.

Can you tell me what's Apple phone number? I'd like to have a talk with it :-) Anytime I try to contact them, I get someone on the phone talking in name of Apple, and usually the result is not good. So, I suspect I have to talk with Apple itself

Roland want to charge me a whole $6.67 to upgrade my copy of Music Creator 6

:P

http://www.store.cakewalk.com/b2cus/Pro ... MT6.00-30E

for realzies!

APPARENTLY, even though the music software was cheap $33. They were still able to squeeze in an upgrade price for their existing customers.

What a concept!

Actually come to think of it, any one of those instruments they ship is worth the price of admission - not to mention 5.5 GB of library content. Especially their General MIDI 2 instrument for which I have not seen an equivilent anywhere! (great for playing old midi files which contain all the tracks to a song). Unlike Ableton it does music notation as well.

I bought MC6 about 6 months to a year ago for the kids so they could learn music creation. I paid $45 back then and it was still worth it. I think the only thing I found lacking with it was that there didn't seem to be a way to do sidechaining. Other than that and a Windows requirement, MC6 might be a viable cross-grade for Logic users :P

Sorry. Couldn't resist. The devil made me do it!

I bought Apr. 27 and got a refund but I had to make multiple complaints about it.

AFAIK, in this industry, ANY company have a grace period within which all users that bought a product that is being upgraded/replaced get some kind of compensation deal. ANY but Apple, apparently.

Also, ANY company in this industry have a special price for customers that already have a product that's being updated. ANY, but apple.

It's not in question if the product is a bargain or not - that's arguable, as anything. Point is: new customers cannot be treated the same way as old customers. That's not how we are used to be treated around here, anyways.
So, no matter how good or how bargain Logic Pro X is, old users are not being treated fair - that's a fact!

And, regarding the "bargain". Asking almost 200,00 euros for an upgrade is not a "bargain". As somenone already pointed, the price for the upgrade from Logic 8 to Logic 9 was 149,00. Compare!

Apple does have a grace period: 30days. I think Rob's case was more like 3months. Still, I bet if he phoned them, there's a fair chance they'd take care of him. Support chat is worthless, because they can't do anything on their end wrt to refunds, etc.

actually, i didn't mean it quite like that

have no experience with LUG, but i have been a very happy member of 'logicprohelp' for the lat 6 years..i have a few thousand posts, a clean record and have certainly given out my fair share of helpfulness over the years

'cold shoulder' is to be taken as more like 'kinda ignored', rather than a complete ousting and avoidance

i don't think i really ranted, i just guess nobody was willing to discuss any of my points...it is a little disappointing as it's really annoying as a long-time lph member and logic user to be looked upon like a troll..or told to just go somewhere else (software, not forums) if i don't like it

i think i have been part of that scene long enough to be allowed to speak in a less favourable tone about my concerns

i would hope if i did cross some kind of line that my past good behaviour would earn me some kind of behind-the-scenes communication rather than immediate, outright banning

i haven't lost all faith in logic simply because so little remains unchanged, leaving much of the good work before intact...guess i will just have to keep watching for the next year or so to see if my fears are valid

The upgrade price has gone up $50 (Euros, whatever). Not as nice as the price going down, but not so bad. Still, if you bought into Logic back in the day when it was $900 or whatever, then I guess I can understand the reaction. In the end, it's either worth it to you or it's not.
Point is: new customers cannot be treated the same way as old customers. That's not how we are used to be treated around here, anyways.

That's seems to be what hurts some people the most, the simple fact that new users aren't being hurt enough in terms of price.

I can't help but think that if Apple now decided that the upgrade price would remain $200 while the full purchase price would be raised to $499, there would be a lot of people nodding with grim satisfaction.

Kind of sad, but that's human nature, I guess.

Me, I'm glad not to have to sort out which version upgrades to which for what price, and I also like the looser restrictions in terms of protection and installing on multiple machines. No dongle! I'm also glad to have waves and waves of new users buying the product, because that ensures that more and more attention will go into developing and maintaining the product into the future.

So yeah, some Logic newbie gets the same deal I'm getting, even though I fancy myself a 'vested partner' of sorts. Who cares? The classical base/upgrade model is clearly off the table in this case and I for one am not sorry to see it go. If you are sorry to see it go, I sympathize. The gui has also been drastically changed and I *am* sorry to see that go, but not sorry enough to jump ship.

I have been told by an Apple shop engineer that your best bet to get something done is to call Apple Care, but not the public 0844 number. In the UK you can try 02071539000. This might be the number of one of the Apple shop, I'm not sure.

I bought LPX last night (not thanks to this thread BTW), and after reading 38 pages of useless BS about complains and complains about complains, I've decided to make a real contribution to this thread and talking about the things that DID change with this release:

GUI is nice, it looks and feels good. It's way easier and intuitive to find functions and stuff, and the help panel is very useful. It does kind of have a Garageband feeling because of the looks, but all Logic features are there, just arranged in a more practical way.

EXS24 looks just the same but the library is 100% new and sounds way better.

Arrangement Markers (not to be confused with simple markers) are pretty cool and let you rearrange complete sections of the project with just a mouse drag.

Drum Designer + Drummer are a very welcome addition as well. It sounds good, real, and you have a good degree of control over it. When used with arrangement markers will pretty much give you a complete (and good sounding) drum track in less than 10 minutes.

As a bass and guitar player, I'm really happy about Bass Amp Designer and the new mic emulations in Guitar Amp Pro (why no one have noticed this?). I haven't have time to plug my guitar or bass, but I'll report back as soon as I do.

Retro Synth sounds good, definitely not just the old synths with new skins. It's really easy to get good sounds in less than a minute. As previously said, it's not a Diva killer, but way faster to work with. You can even group several instances with the new folder feature to have a super cool multi-timbral synth.

A really stupid new feature that made me really happy is the fact that when you click on the transport bar, it will finally stick on a nearest time division and not on the exact point you clicked (no more , and . if you know what I mean).

And finally, full screen without bugs.

I still have to try Midi Plugins and the new pedals.

A tip for cheap bas****s like me: you can find 3x2 itunes card promotions on several stores. I paid $140.00 USD and I still have 10 USD in my account.

You're welcome. 8)
