Minilab Ableton control surface script - Takes 6 or 7 encoder rotations for a parameter sweep

What template should we be using for the MiniLab control surface template for Ableton? it seems the only one that works is preset 2 (which is relative mode and is the same one for the minilab). So I guess the script was designed for this template. however it takes about 6 or 7 rotations of the encoder to cover the full range of a parameter. Isn't there a way to make it work like regular midi learn in absolute mode where a single encoder turns is equivalent to a single parameter range sweep?
