What have they done?

R7. It used to be good believe it or not.

Update: My problem is arming multiple midi tracks without a combinator. i.e. recording several instruments using one keyboard. Apparently, this feature which has existed since the 90s, is not possible with the latest Reason.

Turns out when I imported a song from R3 or something, the combinator arm button went missing.

I don't know man. I'm sincerely disappointed at how bloated Reason feels. It used to be soooo easy to use. How'd they mess it up?

Perhaps a downgrade would be an idea? I'm still at 6.01, on Windows 8 x64. Is 64-bit, stable, don't need RE's so for me it's enough :)

Is there a humanly-possible way of having an audio track and midi track armed at the same time?

Can I sing and play a concert grand patch at the same time? Can someone please show how?

Fking complicated it is now.

Shift+Click the record button of the tracks.

Seems comparable to Live 9 where you have to use Ctrl+Click (Ctrl = "Strg" on germany keyboard) with the record buttons to record multiple tracks.

Thanks, but I've found that my problem is with arming multiple midi tracks. Apparently you need to use a combinator for anything other than a single device.

However, I do like the nice presets and the quick usable sounds it has.

Straight from the manual page 124:
Reason Manual wrote: Only one note lane on one instrument track can have Record Enable active at a time, unless you have locked
additional MIDI keyboard controllers to specific instrument devices in the rack (see "Locking a surface" in the
Remote chapter). If you only have one MIDI keyboard controller (assigned as Master Keyboard), you can only
record notes on one note lane at a time (see "Setting Master Keyboard Input").

Yep, that is seriously limiting. So let's say I have a multitimbral controller with split zones, zone 1 sending channel 1 (say, my pad sound), zone 2 sending channel 2 (which I routed to control a vocoder, for example). I can't do it in Reason (and no, Combinators are not a solution here). Very stupid design decision, Props.

Finally someone who shares my pain.

Is there a valid reason any audio company, especially someone like Props, would do this? Stability issues or what?

hmm a bit too cynical of a comment actually...
