I know what you mean. I have hours upon hours of stuff in various states of completion. I had been toiling away figuring that it wasn't really important to actually finish anything. I even considered the merits of N. Senada's "Theory of Obscurity" = "an artist does his or her best work when working in obscurity, unhindered by the influence of an audience." But then I came here and got addicted to these monthly competitions. I'm still pretty obscure but it's nice to get things done and move them off the hard drive!

Does open voting mean anyone can vote? So everyone can go and say go to KVR and vote for me? What does open voting mean?

20 posts are necessary to be qualified for voting, unless you've entered to the contest - in this very case you're automatically qualified for voting.

Open voting just means you post your top ten in the right thread, that's all.

BTW thanks to the teach for the TOP TEN experiment  8) :)

open voting just means that everyone can see the votes in the thread as they come in (rather than them coming to me as PMs and no-one knowing whats going on until the results are published) ...

... remember though - any votes from a member with less than 20 posts will be ignored

good good.. thanks for the clarification.. I can't stand it when people say " go vote for me" and people do it without listening to the other songs. It's not that I want to win a prize ( I wouldn't spit on a prize though  ), just that it is more objective to do the 20 post thing. Then you really know that whoever wins deserved it. Thanks :)

I'll let you in on a secret; I used to write reviews for the Dutch Groove magazine long ago.

And its a matter of making time I guess :)

Mystahr and You: Thanks for the quick feedback. The amount of work you guys put into listening to tracks and commenting is inspiring. Thank you.

The track was really barely finished. I had most of the elements a couple of weeks ago, then no time to finish them. I had to do a quick mix this morning, I think I even left the vocals at the level I recorded them!!! Oops.

Mystahr: you're right about camelphat...it's on almost everything on the track except the guitar, which probably needed it.

You: that bass note does sound (intentionally) dissonant. I didn't notice how much until I listened at work. I tried about a 100 drum loops and none sounded right. It does need a remix.

BTW, I haven't been able to find any Raymond Scott tracks with Cybotron's electro beats, Reese basses, Plastikman snare rolls, Derrick May strings or fractured chords. Where are they?

Actually, I think you can make a more compelling argument for techno's NY heritage via Arthur Baker...but that's another argument.

(FWIW, why do we only trace the roots of techno to the inventions of it's instruments? Was jazz invented by the first guy to play drums with brushes and country music by the guy that made the first steel guitar? Again, it's another discussion...)
And all life's fears
Can invade my ears
I can handle it
