Mein herzliches Beileid zum Verlust deines Freundes, Yoel. Ich hoffe, die Musik hilft beim Trauern.

Hi guys, this is my entry for the Xils 3 contest.

Cat on a burning roof

Just kidding, this is made with the full version of the Xils 3

Show you what can be done with a little patience with the Xils3. So dont loose courage : Xils 3 is for the braves. ( Drums Samples are from Wave Alchemy btw )

I'll try to recover the separate instruments demo. Not easy as the player doesnt show the sources of my tracks on Xils site. Had to make a dozen attempts with fake urls to recover this one.

Heh, dissapointment goes away bit by bit with every OSC entry :) It would be nice if everyone could to knock it out of the park from the 1st try, but in reality things don't work that way most of the time.

Keep these in mind:

1. there's always someone better and worse than you (your work). Being "average" is not that bad you know, especially when you're competing against really impressive & talented artists :)

2. just because some folks don't happen to like your song(s), doesn't mean that your work sucks - it may just be the opposite. Tastes are personal and subjective, some folks are moved by certain things, others are not. So it's natural to get both negative and positive feedback at the same time.

3. don't take it personal - and who knows, maybe next time the same guys that gave you a low rate will give you 5 points. :)

4. last, but certainly not least: keep doing the things you love. Not because you're good at it, but because you really like doing them :) If music is your thing, keep going and don't mind the "background noise" too much :)

Best of luck :)
Thank you, idfpower. I am thinking exactly the same. But after putting a lot of time and effort in the making of a track it's very hard not to be upset when the response is so bad.

I guess it's time to stop bitching and move on.

V'ger wrote:Sorry ClaRago, that is not freeware and easily accessible as the rules say so must be replaced, hope you make it in time.
As I remembered there was only one instance where I used BiFilter, I have modified the EQ on that instance with more or less same end result, uploading the replacement file right now.

So covers are no longer allowed huh? What if it's not exact but it's closely based on something that inspired you?

I know that's almost the same thing but got to ask. :)

Sorry not.. But 'inspired by' is as always fine. Look at Doc Jon - Reinventing the Wheel OSC 31: Z3ta+ for a prime example how this can go very well indeed.. :)

Nah... After participating in the SDCompo regularly, I learned a long time ago to never really have any expectations for how well your song is going to do. I've had songs that I thought "I'm sure this is going to do well" that ended up getting dead last. And then I've had another song that I thought was total crap and I was sure would get last, and it ended up getting 2nd place!

So you just never know :) It helps to have thick skin and go in with no expectations :)

Just a few sonic examples of Xils3 in the non esoteric sonic field aka its bnb side :

Some keys and synths

Some Pads and Fx

Shows the kind of modulations you can do, sound character etc.

To e@rs, I placed last in the Feldspar OSC and what made me move after a bit of disappointment was the comments and opinions of others really was fun to get, but ultimately not to be relied upon.

It's really up to you and what you were gifted with from above, did you like your song, did you get pleasure making it, did you grow from it, how did you relate to it. Other's opinions will come around when you connect with your discoveries, as it's as much about the process as the results. Maybe more so.

Sorry if that was too strong, or insensitive, but I know I would like to hear your track this month or the next one you enter :) Remember it also makes the competition stronger having you enter, so you are helping just by entering.

SDCompo, what's that?

Found it it's .... http://www.sdcompo.com/about.php ?? ooooohhhh looks great; been meaning to learn Buzz :wheee: /

The BE Edition was a lot of fun to work with. This synth definitely has it's own character and is capable of a tremendous variety of sound. There are some quirks though -- for instance, controlling pitch modulation (vibrato) using Osc 3 as the modulation source to the pitch of osc 1 or 2 was very difficult to control, and velocity control of volume was a little weird. I also found that some of the presets would have red dots sitting outside of the grids, probably for parameters that were not part of the BE edition.

Generally speaking though, learning to use this synth was a pleasure --- it was a little challenging but after only a few sessions of experimentation it became easy to create very interesting sounds with relatively small effort.

Midi control of parameters is hugely important, and while the interface is a little clunky, the potential for very animated and interesting sound design is huge.

Thanks for making this available for free!

Yeah, that's it :) It's been really inspiring to me over the years. We don't have prizes though, just a sense of accomplishment :) Buzz eh? bring it on! Most people over there use Renoise, but occasionally we'll get an entry from Buzz, Psycle, Sunvox, and a few others.

Slightly more on topic:
My OSC entry is still developing. Looks like with 2 nights left and lots of motivation, I will manage to get this thing done :)

P.S...

V'ger wrote:Can I suggest you use MIDI and use an arranger tool instead? It will do the loops and you can quickly try different versions of the song, see Reaper's Region manager and playlist here:
V'ger check out how Tony Ostinato configured Reaper to be a live sound module; (who buy the way is also a Cantabile user) - watch the video it's fascinating as the workflow would fit the way I work rather nicely. Instead of the Mobius Looper, time better spent would be to try develop a Tony like KVR OSC Reaper template :)

Just got around to watching this and totally blown away, this is really clever stuff. Obviously this is a real live setup that is being used regularly with Tony playing the Windsynth so this is tried and tested stuff. Once again we see InsertPiz MIDI plugins doing a lot of heavy lifting. Of course this is for instrument playing more than DJ-ing type loop triggering stuff, but I could see the ideal combination with using InsertPiz MIDI looper as well. (can't be used here unfortunately as it's payware)
