Would anyone like a free mix?

I hope this is the right place to put a thread like this (if not - moderators please let me know or move/delete the thread etc.).

I am now in business as a mix engineer working from home and i need to build up my portfolio for my website.

For the next month or two i am offering to mix tracks for free in exchange for their use on my 'portfolio' page. If anyone is interested please PM me. Of course, i will only use any tracks for my portfolio if you are 100% happy for me to (ie. if you don't like my mix then i won't use it).

I am most comfortable working with dance, electronic, pop, singer/songwriter, indie pop and rock. This being kvr i am hoping to be offered more electronic orientated projects - any kind of house/techno/pop (that has a heavy reliance on synths and programmed drums etc.) - is what i'm really after. Just to be clear and to not waste anyone's time - i am not after dubstep or any kind of commercial trance style projects as this is not really the demographic i am aiming my business at.

24 bit 44.1 kHz is my preferred format to work with.

Also, Please don't be offended if i refuse a track - i need to be a little discerning as regards tracks that i think will appeal to casual browsers or fit in with my mixing style/genres etc.

lol! just spent a while at your soundcloud page - love it! I am a big Severed Heads fan and there's definitely something in your music that reminds of that spirit. Awesome stuff - haha yeah it might scare the casual browsers! Dessert Rats is great.

i dunno.. my music sounds more like these guys than for real people, i don't think mixing would change that. xoxos.bandcamp if your prospects are reduced.




i'm going to try co-opting your thread before i start my own..

i'd like to invite anyone on kvr who doesn't like me or my music to record vocals for one of my songs, like "way you want it" or "moonlight in july". pick one, or i can assign one.

pour as much sarcasm and derision into it as possible. sing out of key, off-rhythm, comment on the lyrics as you sing them. use your powers of bad energy. try and make my song suck as hard as possible, try to wound my spirit.

i figure a compilation of several such covers will give each contributing artist some indemnity for participating, the project is ~an acid test for the strength of the song.... i love facetious lyrics, and intend for every interpretation to be part of the song.

haha no way! i'm already liking the way my thread is going I have been introduced to interesting new music... and i intend to look into your software more closely (i played around with the sounds of nature pack a few years back and kept meaning to go back and have a look at your site) - enjoying listening to your hyp01 album at the moment.

Is Dubstep too faddish to be considered? I have a song that I finished recently and I'm not sure if it's the right kind of music or if you need it but I figured I would throw it out there anyway just in case. It's the second song on http://reverbnation.com/nineofkings , called "Trip and Fall." Just an idea. The other songs are closer to the indie pop kinda side.

Hi nineofkings, The reason i'm not jumping at dubstep mixes is not because of the faddish nature of the style particularly - it's more to do with the fact that i'm not confident at producing that kind of very deep bass led music (drum 'n bass included as well). Also, from what i gather most dubstep artists produce themselves as i guess it ends up being part of the process of learning how to program those kind of sounds anyway - does that make sense? I think you need very particular monitoring set-ups to accurately mix that style to a very high commercial standard. Basically, mixing dubstep scares the shit out of me lol! plus my neighbours may not appreciate it!

Thanks! I understand, it's very difficult (for me anyway) getting accurate monitoring on bass/sub-bass heavy sounds. Hope the endeavor goes well anyways, it's certainly a generous offer - especially when you might not even get anything in return if the artist rejects it.

Well, i will always get something out of every mix i do - i love working with audio and i love learning new ways to achieve the results i'm after. What i am getting out of it is a nice portfolio of varied material so that, hopefully, people will hire me in the future.

If you want to try something "out there" but in the super-conservative sense, I've been making mostly showtunes/classical-crossover type stuff. Here's a couple of recent things:

Gone for good (showtune)
Flame of Memory (Classical Crossover, Russian)

Getting my vocal to sound good will probably be your biggest challenge (I recorded with a 58 in an untreated house and melodyned only the most egregious errors). Also feel free to have a peak at my site (yevster.com), see if you like anything there.

That's a noble goal and a good way to go about it. Better to bring yourself up than bring others down.
