I didn't want to hijack Peter/IKM's thread -- I like his company's products -- but I did want to mention another stand that has a similar design, the Thermaltake LUXA2 H4, which is about US$20 from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/LUXA2-Aluminum-Ho ... 003KGBD16/. The construction is sturdy, it can accommodate various sizes (so you don't have to remove a case), and it switches easily between portrait and landscape mode without removing the iPad.

Unlike the IKM product, it won't clip to your desk. (Advantage: IKM.) But it can easily slide under a keyboard or synthesizer, and effectively has a very small footprint. I got the idea for something like this from watching a video by Tim Webb: http://discchord.com/blog/2012/4/12/aka ... on-61.html.

I do notice that the IKM stand will hold your iPad a bit higher off the desk than mine. The LUXA2 can angle up for extra clearance, but once again the IKM stand is a little more flexible.

I like IKM's products and the iKlip Stand looks to be well-designed. But at US$70 it's a little expensive. I have no connection with Thermaltake, but I've been using the LUXA2 happily for a few months now and recently bought a second one. In landscape mode, the LUXA2 is just big enough to hold a small desktop module like the DSI Tetra or Mopho. I don't have a Korg Monotribe or Volca, but it might work for one of those too.

Looks nice. I saw some older reviews complained about looseness in the mechanism - have you had any issues with that? Can you leave a minimal cover on the iPad while using the stand? Also, can you use the volume control or is it covered?

I leave my covers on. The size is adjustable, so unless your cover is very thick there shouldn't be an issue. The volume control is always accessible. I haven't noticed any looseness in the mechanism. According to the product page, "85% torque remains after 20,000 times full range operation."

it seems to me that the new iKlip stand from 1K multimedia, released a few days ago, would be a great solution if you got both the stand and the clamp in one package for $70 instead of one or the other. The way it is now, its just too expensive to consider.

I hope more people will post about their solutions to this. I'm wanting to hook the 1K multimedia blue tooth midi pedal switcher to my iPad and use the iPad as my guitar pedal board using an expression pedal. But I need something sturdy that can sit on the ground and can be adjusted in a comfortable angle in different situations... hmm...

Great! Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll have to get one.

ok, I got one. Its pretty nice and works for what I want it for (to use my iPad as a guitar pedal library. It swivels into enough angles for me and feels like holds the iPad steady and solidly. Only $20! The packaging looks like they are pretending to be Apple which for me is a little offputting but a minor thing really. I do get the feeling, even though it hold my iPad safely, that I should be a little careful with it. Seems like I could break it easily. BUT, I'll just have to be a little careful with it... At this price, I can't imagine anything better. thank for the recommendation!!!

p.s. I have the latest iPad (4th gen.)

Obviously I'm too biased to comment on the rest of this thread BUT I had to fix this - you DO get both clamp and stand bases with our iKlip Stand. You have to choose between the one for regular iPad or iPad mini but again you get both the desk clamp and stand bases with iKlip Stand (but obviously not two whole mechanisms)

o man. thanks for the clarification. I don't think that is clear on the website. It doesn't say sepcifically. I just says you can use one or the other. And there are few pics showing the clamp.Seems like it would be useful to have an image showing how you swap them out...

I would've gotten that one instead. dang. If you send me a free one, I'll do a video review! :)
