Well, to be legendary, hasn't there to be a certain cult about something? I don't see a cult behind z3ta... anyway, as i said, people will never be as fanatic about software, than about hardware, coz you simply can't touch it, clean it, make love to it or whatever. :D

There is a cult waiting right here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... light=z3ta

Are you sure? :o

I think 80% of the discussion at KVR is about somebody claiming that Plugin A sounds better/more real/etc etc than Plugin B

This thread was for example pretty much started because somebody wanted to diss z3ta+ 2

Maybe, but do you know a plugin as legendary as the Minimoog? I don't...

Not strictly a plugin, but Cubit/Cubase has been going since the early 80's close to 30 years now: http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/tech/ ... ase-406132

MiniMoog and Cubase is like apple and oranges, can't be compared really, but they both got their own kind of quality seeing they are still around after all this time

Maybe time to define "legendary" then. For me, legendary is not something which is broadly used due to it being state of the art or something, but rather something people pull up high, strain stories about it, make it an object of desire. Can't see any of that on any piece of software. On the contrary, i've read of many, many hardware synthesizers that way. Software just doesn't have the potential. You can't pull it up high, because you just can't touch it physically. ;) The human nature is like that.

To me the Commodore 64 and some of it's software, like the MicroRhythm+, can be put "up high"

Looking at how much the SID chip is in demand, it sounds dead good still 8)

After all these years, it's still a good synth, which can be "legendary" in terms of certain sounds (DnB for example).

But the only "synth legends" I consider "Legendary", are:
- One Ping Only
- Synth 1

Not the early eighties. It's more like the late eighties, early nineties, but yeah, it started a long time ago. But it has been upgraded. Hardware synths cannot - that's why their lifespan was way shorter.

I run into them all the time. And they can be quite fanatical. I do notice though, they seem to be in the same range of style, 'house; DJ; experimental noise' . I do think if the Z3ta developers spent more time programming for other styles it would develop some other followings. It does have some very good basic synth sounds too and probably could even fit better into ambient and newage categories with some patches directed toward that. I honestly don't want to program everything I own and Z3ta, unfortunately falls into a place where I might tweek it a little (and I'm always finding I have to turn off the ring modulation, turn down the gains and fiddle with the limiter to get a more pleasant sound). But for that reason, It's not a 'go-to' synth for me. But I have met a cult following of fanatics that swear by it.

Its instant NFR status is kinda legendary over here :hihi:

Bullsh*t..........I've pretty much abandoned my hardware and relegated it to museum status........sort of like the Dinosaurs......

Seriously the "Legendary" bit was just some ad blurb from Cakewalk......nothing worth heated debate over.......

It ends like this. "Finally, a quick word on names. Cubase 6 is the current full version, while Artist 6 and Elements 6 offer cutdown feature sets at lower prices. With prices starting at around £85 for Elements, there should be an option to suit most pockets."

ADVERT ADVERT ADVERT. Not surprising coming from music radar though. While I abandoned cubase a few years ago, its right to remember their heritage.

The debate wasn't heated anyway. Until the guy who claims it was heated came in...
