The manual says (pg. 7) that "OFF" stops the advance of the note in the note list and nothing is played.

Is the difference between "OFF" in Order and on/off enabling (the blue blocks at the bottom each bar/ column) that note on/ off mutes, but OFF delays the next note in the note list until the next available step?

Short answer - Yes.

My manual says "Arp plays nothing and note list is not advanced."
You might add the words "during this step",
because the note list is paused and can resume advancing during the next step.

If on the other hand you just mute the step with the lower blue button* the note order advances behind the scenes.

If you would like a simple example I could write back an easy way to demonstrate this.

*Manual calls this the "ORDER control step on/off control"

Thanks again.

I think I got it ... as that's about the only thing that would make sense when you add your phrase. It could have been called delay.

I think the English in the manual is technically OK ... but not really thoroughly written or in the vernacular. As an example, I would not refer to the stacks of boxes or values above the step as a "bar," but as a column. Reading at first sent me to the '4 beats to the bar' sense of the word.

Maybe as things get sorted out for my own clarity I'll make a stab at a rewrite and send it to Arto for consideration.

It would be good if the presets included some examples of these finer points.

I am just 'wood shedding' and recording midi files so I can exactly understand how things works one variable at a time. Cream has a tremendous potential and will always be good for a play with serendipity ... but will only reach that potential when mastered.

I'm about to read Chardin's Length tab tutorial, as I keep getting 17 steps on repeat instead of the 16 I'm expecting!

I'm a beginner, but very eager.

I think the manual is remarkable. I admire how much is crammed into it's brief descriptions. Most of the info is there if you read carefully.

Like you say though there could be some better words used like replacing the word "bar" (for the stacked boxes) with "column".
