plastique, I fixed the midi part exception. I re-uploaded sa1 in case anyone wants to use it until next beta upload (btw, v1.25 final release tomorrow)

ik_ik_ik, if you hide the mixer in the main window, does this remove the audio glitches? Is it only in the main window? what about moveing windows over the sequencer mixer or loop/position view?

hi jorgen,

still get that exception. plastique?

if i hide the mixer in the main window there is an improvement. below i was actually refering to a mixer component (a small 8 channel mixer with 2 sends) rather than the main window's mixer. a screenshot of the simple "test rig" is here. i'd guess the improvement is down to less animated elements on screen?

if i hide the main window mixer and the mixer component then it's virtually impossible to get glitches now :-)

one thing i thought of before that's maybe buried is would it be possible for standalone to pick up on the windows setting "show window contents while dragging". if this is not checked then standalone would drag around an outline rather than the window's contents. this would i expect significantly improve things all round. what do you think?

looking forward to 1.25 final :D

cheers,

big improvement on my side :o :D, error message is gone as well now :)
i just have the occasional noises when using the mousewheel when a part is playing ... so rather a bug with my asio driver on this particular machine (it's an rme9652 soundcard ).i'll try to find some newer drivers for it.

sa2.exe has sorted the exception over here too but the glitches are worse than with sa1.exe - probably because sa2.exe runs at normal priority as compared to sa1.exe which runs ar high priority.

that's ballistic :D exception gone and quite hard to get glitches now with high priority - especially if any mixers are hidden away.

what do you think to the idea about dragging only outlines around?

thanks very much for your efforts! it's hugely appreciated :-)

k_ik_ik, could you try this version please:

http://www.xt-hq.com/beta/sa4.zip

Test both with and without the "show window contents while dragging" in Display properties, and see if it has any effect on the audio glitches when dragging windows over the mixer(s)...

hi jorgen,

i'm very happy to report that sa4.exe works much better!

it responds immediately to a change of the "show window contents while dragging" setting.

when dragging without showing contents i get no dragging around glitches at the moment - will test more later but it's looking good. the cpu peaks i was seeing have stopped.

looks like you've also implemented a suspension of gui updating whilst dragging which no doubt helps too :-)

dragging whilst showing contents does still result in some glitching despite the gui freezing. and there's still some glitching when opening windows e.g. a vst instrument - some are worse than others.

thanks again for getting it this far!

eeek! sa5.exe makes the cpu go flat out constantly. the energyxt cpu meter remains low but the task manager and speedswitchxp cpu meters hit 100%. it does seem to perform similarly to sa4.exe though - much better all round.

have just spent a productive - as always :) - couple of hours using the app and had a couple more thoughts...

was wondering if you could do the same for resizing as you've done for moving - i.e. not show the contents whilst resizing?

there are often glitches when opening windows - especially vst plugins. occasionally sync is lost when this happens. heavy gui and dll loading issues i expect. maybe there's some way to make this process less intrusive also?

anyone else testing these .exe that jorgen's been working hard on?

so sa5 is works better than sa4?

I'll see if I can make window resizing work the same way as moving windows.

i think sa4.exe is better than sa5.exe

the performance is similar however sa5.exe clamps the cpu up to 100% constantly which is probably not an ideal way to go. fans kick in and things start heating up :-o

with sa4.exe the cpu behaved normally so i'd guess this is a more preferable solution.

i've noticed this morning that the latest beta (24-may-2004) behaves similarly to sa5.exe so i wonder if others have noticed the cpu hitting the roof too?

the resizing thing would be good. maybe even a mixer level meters on/off option somewhere would be handy as a general feature?

had a lot of fun with audio in the sequencer recently btw :)
