Sounds better than some many payware synths

Thank you for not making me think I was the only one with this "problem".ENV1 wrote:The LFO switch always goes out after closing and reopening the UI.
The waveform itself remains selected but the switch always goes out.
Its one of the bugs i meant to report but forgot about.
So it's a known bug... hooray !
And YES.... the sounds coming from this thing are very very very good

Just got word from the developer Pekka that the runtime files (the required dll's) would have been possible to be bundled in the VST, but unfortunately the build environment is lost..
I guess that would also explain why the bugs or issues that appears in the skin have all these workarounds and can't be sorted on build level.

I only scratched the surface of this amazing synth. But I am allready a big fan of it! There are for sure a ton of great sounds under the hood, waiting to get explored. The patches are realy promissing.
The only thing I miss are some numbers for certain controllers. Especially when I sync the LFO and the delay to the host I get no visual feedback of the tempo like 1/1, 1/2 etc. Do you see any? I use the steel GUI (very nice btw).
And oh yes, the CPU load could become a problem.

This sounds very cryptic , I would have used the same emoticonV'ger wrote:... but unfortunately the build environment is lost......

So we'll never get an update, huh? Too sad!V'ger wrote:Just got word from the developer Pekka that the runtime files (the required dll's) would have been possible to be bundled in the VST, but unfortunately the build environment is lost..I guess that would also explain why the bugs or issues that appears in the skin have all these workarounds and can't be sorted on build level.

Apparently there is a second version on the way but totally different.
Yes it is a bit confusing wording heh, but I assume build environment basically means the whole synth project file, hopefully Pekka can explain more.
But as is clear the synth sounds marvelous and the bugs are overcomeable so this should still produce some great tunes, let's see if the needed runtimes can be somehow installed in Wine.

NewEgg has some great deals on refurbs right now...marks-a-whybikky wrote:.... is this synth awesome enough, to buy an extra microsoft-based computer and a daw for it?
Only for being here in that challenge?
If yes, please let me hear some of your own examples - different instances in one time without effects ...
post scriptum: i only use logic9 or studio one 2 on apple's os

True dat. I wrote it somewhere earlier this year that only using Osc1 as a sound source and Osc2 as a LFO mod for Osc1 and maxing voices, unison and stereo spread sounds so f***ing awesome for pads.Aiynzahev wrote:Sounds better than some many payware synths
And if you get used to "mousewheel knob turning" and "floating above the gui" programming is so damn fast. Only the finetuning of knob ranges drives me crazy sometimes.
Excellent synth.

Sebastian

Have you tried partitionning your mac in order to use Windows via Boot Camp ?marks-a-whybikky wrote:.... is this synth awesome enough, to buy an extra microsoft-based computer and a daw for it?

Having said that I think I am going to give up too .
I had the " msvrc100.dll missing" message when launching Reaper set up in Windows 7 on the bootcamp partion of my Mac. Runtime did not change a thing.
Downloaded mscvr100.dll file from the internet & followed these instructions:
If that doesn't work, you will have to extract the .dll to your system directory. By default, this is:
C:\Windows\System (Windows 95/98/Me)
C:\WINNT\System32 (Windows NT/2000)
C:\Windows\System32 (Windows XP, Vista, 7, win Cool
If you use a 64-bit version of Windows, you should also place the .dll in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\
Make sure to overwrite any existing files (but make a backup copy of the original file for safety).
Reboot your computer.
Still does not work ( the .dll file is locked in theSysWOW64 directory - will it work if I can unlock it ? if so does anyone know how to do that? )
Thanks for helping if you can.

A couple of nice things about the envelopes, in case anyones interested.
MauSynths envelopes are different from most softsynths in that a change of the Sustain is not instant, but directly tied to the timing of the Decay. To see what this means, and how it can be applied in practice, try the following experiment:
- Set all Modulation knobs to 0
- Disable Osc2/Noise/Delay and defeat the filter
- Set Osc1 to output Saw or Square
- Set the AmpEnv to A-0 / D-0 / S-10 / R-0 so you have a gate effect
- Set the ModEnv/Osc1Freq modulation knob to full
- Set all knobs of the ModEnv to 0, then hold CTRL and click the Decay knob
(Holding CTRL and clicking an object sets it to precisely 50%.)
Now press a key and hold it. You will get a nice smooth downward frequency sweep. Keep holding the key and move the Sustain knob rapidly from 0 to 10. You will notice that the frequency doesnt change suddenly and hard, but that it actually follows the Decay curve. Now try it with longer and shorter decay times and check the effect. Automate the Sustain knob to make use of this in the project.
Another nice thing is that you can also create 'upward decays'.
To check this out, start as outlined above. After you centered the Decay knob, set the Sustain knob past 2-o'clock. (3-o'clock will be fine.) You will notice that the frequency now no longer sweeps downwards, but upwards instead.
This can be expanded upon to create a 'dual attack' effect, where the first part is generated with the actual Attack stage and the second part is generated with the Decay stage. To check this out, start as outlined above. Hold CTRL and click the Attack knob to center it. Set the Decay knob to ca. 10-o'clock. Set the Sustain knob to full and keep the Release knob at 0. Press a key and hold it. You will notice that the frequency will at first rise slowly, (the actual Attack stage), and then much faster as the Decay stage kicks in. Keep playing with Attack and Decay for different curve shapes.
Note: Of course this works with the Filter too, but for it to really have a good effect you should (must) keep the Cutoff knob close to 0 and the ModEnv/FilterCutoff modulation knob at or below 50%. Otherwise the Filter will be too wide open and the effect will be 'swallowed'.
Happy Experimenting.

I was kinda wrong. I reinstalled my PC/Windows7/C:, and it seems that I need these 3 DLLs to make it work:DzAH wrote: All I needed was msvcp100.dll to make it work.
msvcp100
msvcr71
msvcr100
Also, I have been able to make all the 32bit versons to work, but non of the 64bit.
