Writing a VST in any language that doesn't compile to native code and allow pretty fine-grained control of memory management and reliable realtime response is a waste of time.

Writing Java & Python code puts the bread on my table but I know their limitations well enough to know when they're not appropriate.
Easy tiger, only joking around! Although i understand why you might be pissed off having to write python code for a living

Its all good. i currently write ASP a lot. It sucks. But such is life :)

Ok, I was taking the piss, hence the :? . Languages like Java and Python certainly have their uses, but it isn't realtime DSP.

Python sucks. I'd much rather be using ruby. Oh well.

I'm not saying that you can't write a VST in java at all. I'm saying it will suck.

Ahh, Ruby! There's a gem of a language. If anobody is interested in an elegant, object oriented scripting lanugage, do yourselves a favour and check out the Ruby Central.

An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

Kinda like http://www.excelsior-usa.com/jet.html except free... is it as good?

Couldnt tell you. GCC has had a lot of optimisation over the years so it aint half bad. How much of that carries into GCJ I couldnt tell you.

But it is cross-platform.
