cheers sebastian
any percussion synth enthusiasts hardcore enough to make it all the way through this..
http://www.xoxos.net/temp/xsnare_brushed.mp3
there's a bit lost in the mp3.. i wanted to stick to the aesthetic by keeping the model as simple as possible, like the 808 equivalent. you can hear when the noise is totally stripped, it sounds like a nasty oscillator. i could double up (or more) the number of oscillators and have an extremely harmonically rich signal, but as is it works pretty well as long as it's mixed with the noise.

thanks for giving it a run
i'm thinking the fundamental is going to drop a few dB.

The brushed snare is sounding great. There's a big old range of sounds possible there from what I can hear. Seems this plug is turning into a bit of a powerhouse.

brushed.. surprised by how much difference those few dB made.. only managed to take it down a fraction of a dB before it lost the effect.
also added a low, slow pitch envelope on it which immediately suggested a cylindrical volume to my ears, while ~leading the timbre in one direction, if you know what i mean. and doubled up on the number of harmonics, made the second lot about 9dB lower seemed best to me.
course, after doing that i gotta add extra slow attack algorithms to the cymbals to match the brushed snare.. and the toms.. noooooooooo.... also thinking some of the stuff i developed doing this will make nice toms.. so, there's another load to do i didn't think i'd have to.
here's my t-shirt design. $75 a head and i'll put a little xoxos.net in the corner.

decided my long post was a waste of readers' time, so look at the picture and think of all the fun. that fun is all mine.
the point i will repeat is that when you switch models, all the parameterisation changes as the development was emulative. a more integrated, mature overview i think would allow the assignment of characteristics, such as the choice of attack, without changing the other parameters. of course, this format does accoutre the experience necessary to apply such choices informedly (lol "informedly" it's a ****ing drumbox..).
i like seeing them, they're a pleasure, as eg. the first (pass 90 degrees at fixed frequency, fast pitch envelope down to fundamental thereafter) is a very straightforward way of instituting a punchy attack.
the 2nd is equally elementarily awesome.. the toms off that box have the same (under 90 degrees) pointy thing. whap. 3rd is a mess for a couple cycles.. that clipped region is wider than the normal period, the 360 after it is faster. any more on it and i'll be back in the rant i just deleted.

Nice. I like looking at those stuff too. Learned so much from comparing waveforms or simply looking at them while listening closely....i like seeing them, they're a pleasure, as eg. the first (pass 90 degrees at fixed frequency, fast pitch envelope down to fundamental thereafter) is a very straightforward way of instituting a punchy attack....
The first screenshot reminds me (again...sigh!) on some of my T OSC kicks iirc. The little drop and the sudden spike afterwards. Imo they (the waveforms) differ from most of the other kicks I have seen (and I have seen a lot)
Looking forward to see and listen to this device.

the fft analyser says a procedural sine is (often) as pure as other methods (eg. table, phasor). subjectively, it does feel "warm," but i always know when i'm using one.. remember i consider the t-osc an experiment, the "signal quality" is not good.
woke up with an "insightful" topic to discuss, cleared off now (thank god). glad i left the kick to last, breaks are necessary and frequent when fine tuning bass with (or without) headphones.

Yeah that might be but for real underground stuff (Deep House, Techno, High Tech Soul) it's the bomb. Let the other people use all the polished stuff for their un-funky music. I don't need it. I am getting pretty good results mostly out of anything. Thanks to 5 years of Propellerheads Reason.xoxos wrote:... remember i consider the t-osc an experiment, the "signal quality" is not good....

Heck I learned DJing on two self modded cheap turntables more than 20 years ago with a friend of mine. That wasn't good either and was an experiment too. But later we needed only 10 seconds on real Technics to get the records on the same speed. Thanks to our sub-par entry equipment. I have 2k records here and I am sure that half of the artists did not have the best gear too when they produced their stuff. I am a modest guy. I work with what I have. And I am glad that you develope all those funky s**t.
Anyways, btt. Can't wait to hear the final results. The main thing is that it's funky.

i started recording over a decade before midi, so yes, i'm aware of the relativity of "quality".
still, excuse me, but i'm going to put a plug in it. i do not feel that t-osc is really representative of my dsp, and, as a developer who has to fight for every scrap of recognition, i'm just tired of you coming here and posting post after post about a plugin that will give people a -10dB noise floor.
i don't want to be an asshole about it, but when i'm developing water and radian and adze and computer music wants to run an article on xompler, i feel a bit like they couldn't give a f**k. i don't feel it's representative of my work, and if you post one more post about it, i'm going to remove it from my website.
please, stop talking about some old shit i did a long time ago that is interesting but sounds so crap in the uninteresting parts.

Hey,
sry for that posts. It was not my intention to bother you with that old things. Hey, I like your new stuff. It's awesome. Especially the stuff you mentioned. And I undertsand what you said so I am out of here. Good luck.

yeah, i get it.Halma wrote:Reminds on this thread about synthesizing a string. Iirc there was a guy who managed to get a real string sound out of his synthesizers. But he has used an incredible amount of synth instances or bandpass filters for this AND (!!!) it was only for one note. Took him a few months iirc. So synthesizing the other notes...well, I think you get it.

btw folks we are still up in bullshit altitudes with the thread views, about 300 a day, which would be fair if this thread were in the instruments forum and getting several replies per day. in this forum, it should get around 50 if it were a brand new topic, so someone needs to fix their artificial thread view count inflator.
