i have an alesis midi drum trigger. for live performances there are times when i want the drummer to be able to hit any of the pads without having to be precise, and have it fire off a chord, in a repeating sequence of, say, 8 different chords.

so basically the first time the drummer hits the pad chord 1 plays, the next time they hit it chord 2 plays, and so on.

im using liveprofessor to host the VST synths that i want to trigger, in case that has an impact, but what im wondering - is there a VST midi utility that can use a simple midi trigger signal, ignoring note value, just on/off, to fire off a sequential series of pre-programmed chords?

Post

dunno about your daw application but
in LIVE, you can sequence clip A to "follow after" clip B, etc . . .

my setup is already built around liveprofessor, and i dont plan on purchasing live, so im looking for a vst that can do this, some kind of midi sequencer/chorder or something.

Have you looked at Insert Piz Here , He's got quite a bit of Midi stuff. Check out Midistep.

thanks madman, just tried out midistep and it seems to be exactly what i need.

however its a bit undercooked, the piano roll is really bad to work with, theres very little control or options. is there anything else out there similar?

it is a great start though. cheers.

Well, I know this isn't what you're looking for, but maybe someone will be able to use it. Roland edrums usually have this feature and Trapkats and Drumkats have this feature in spades.

ye im aware of the feature on roland edrums, kind of what inspired me to want to try this with my midi drum pad. would be nice to have some more options on the vst end of the spectrum.

Do you have a sample player? (eg NI Battery?) Record the chords then trigger from there.

If one pad: set up as round robin in sampler.
If using the whole set of pads (my preference): Assign a chord to each pad.

You can even trigger a musical phrase this way.

A fixed sample playback volume or smaller volume to velocity range may help in performance consistency when triggering chords from a pad.

im not sure, from what i see on the site/demo video it looks like cthulu still requires you to press different keys to trigger different chords/arps.

what i need is a 'round robin' kind of deal where just a single note can trigger of a series of pre-programmed chords in sequence.

Kevin63101 thanks, thats exactly the kind of idea im looking for - didnt think to use Batteries round-robin feature!

appreciate the tips!
