Breeze wrote: I would think that B2 implements multi-core operation by default, right? Diva maxes out a single core on some complex presets in the HQ mode even with 3.2 gHz Sandy Bridge; but its multi-core switch is very effective at spreading the workload.

No. B2, Aether, Breeze all run on a single core currently. It's not quite as simple to use multiple cores as it seems. It works better for something like synth where each note/voice can be a different thread. Something might be possible in the future, but this gets to be a complex subject that deals with code structure and assembly vectorization schemes. It all has to be thought out and balanced very delicately.

Breeze wrote: If there's contentious multi-core management between B2 and a host, would an alternate host like VEP5 help?
Maybe, but on OSX developers (and more more so plug-in developers) don't have a ton of control over thread management. It is generally handled by the OS.

btw, we have added some things that make the "Nano" much more usable for high quality reverb presets instead of just FX presets. And there was a bug with Diffusion in this mode that we found and corrected. You will be quite surprised at what is achievable now with nano mode. I am a bit surprised myself.

Nano is less than 1/10 the CPU usage as XTRM!

Don't hesitate to give us a taste of that addition/change, if time permits. Cheers and thanks for continued development :tu:

Interesting to hear about the nano improvements. It's great to have flexibility to use reverb as an extremely efficient (but smooth) reverb as well.

B2 is that one product I think I'll be on the verge of buying for many years. But here's a promise: Put a no-latency mode on there like Aether and I'll buy it. That would put me over the top. Disable the compressor/distortion or whatever would be necessary. I know it's hardly any, but I'll typically grab a reverb without any additional latency.

Perhaps in a future update...

Note that in algo verbs, the verb is made of delays. The delay must have some length. At 44,100 64 samples is about 1.5ms. Or about 0.5 meters. Or about 3 feet. Cubes of 0.5 meters sound very bad for standard reverb. Concert halls are designed to be large, b/c large spaces tend to sound better (i.e. more flat etc.) And, well people usually don't fit in 0.5m cubes... unless you are MaxHeadroom:

Therefore verbs usually use delays that are MUCH longer. In Aether and Breeze, when we say there is zero latency, we refer to the dry signal. The wet signal is always going to be delayed by some amount b/c if there is no delay there is no reverb. (unless you are using a purely all-pass design, but that is technical detail, and even then in such designs pre-delay is almost never exactly zero.)

The only difference with B2 is that we delay the dry signal also, and then declare this delay to the host so that it is compensated. This is b/c B2 can offer non-verb presets that are distortion/EQ/MS/Dyn only, and in this case you do not want to mix two signals that are not perfectly time aligned or you will get strong comb filtering...

not sure how I feel about this lighter blue page wrapper update here on KVR...

...makes my eyes go like this:

...seems to call attention to itself, when the attention should be on content in the messages... black, or whatever it was previously was more function IMHO....

I agree.

On one hand I like the new lighter blue as I never liked the darker blue.

But I think having the new lighter blue as the main background and using the darker as the wrapper would work better - if we must have the 2 blues.

While complaining....I've always thought the green on the dark blue is horrid :o

Paranoimia!
Is the Max Headroom above the Nyquest?

ya... I think MaxHeadroom is prob pretty badly aliased... :?

but since we are throwing art of noise into the mix also, we can't forget:

OK, I've made the newest update available to try...

B2 1.2.0 (b228).

This version adds:

1) Significant New Features

2) Double Sized GUI

3) Preliminary AAX support (64/32 Win/OSX)

4) Some AVX Optimizations for up to 20% efficiency improvement on CPUs that have AVX support.

5) All the new browser stuff that was already available but you may not have had it if you didn't bother with the previous manual install intermediate step

6) Minor Bug fixes

AAX in this version will only work for Pro Tools beta testers. It is not for general Pro Tools users quite yet. We have to complete one more task to accomplish that, which is what we are finalizing now. This is the last remaining task for this update cycle for all products.

I will describe new features more thoroughly later. Short descriptions to follow.

Existing customers: to obtain, follow ALL directions here closely please (there are full installers... it is easy :!: ):

Super! Thanks! Love the HD size! :)

The only issue so far is a déja-vu: there's occasional crashes if the presets are changed too fast. This seems more true of the reverbs than the short effects.

**Update: Actually I just realized that all of the Factory presets are buggered: selecting the category results in all the presets being selected at the same time.

Note: this is clearly still a beta as Andrew warned. The previous version is still more stable; if you're working on something currently don't update yet! ;)

BTW, the browser in HD is awesome...
