Does anybody have nomad Factory's MAGMA?

Wow! That's impressive. I think I will be buying Magma then. Seems like a nice set of effects, but being able to modulate 3rd party plugin parameters within Magma is a hugh benefit. This latest update made all the difference to me.
By exposing 3rd party plugin parameters to your DAW, you meant that you can modulate those parameters straight from the DAW (and bypassing Magma for mod duties).

Yes, that's right. There's a way to map any module or plugin parameter so that its controlled by a Magma parameter that the hosts automation system will see. (the only caveat is that because of limitations in the way hosts/the VST standard behave, there's no way to update the Magma parameter names on-the-fly, so they're just numbered)stikygum wrote:By exposing 3rd party plugin parameters to your DAW, you meant that you can modulate those parameters straight from the DAW (and bypassing Magma for mod duties).
A similar system lets you map any module or plugin parameter to a MIDI CC as well.
The demo gives you 30 days unrestricted useage, btw, its worth having a play with it in your host of choice.
The one thing that Magma doesnt seem to handle is instrument plugins (it just ignores them), but I can get around that by hosting them an instance of Bidule inside Magma.

I think that's fine that you can't host VSTi because they have there own modulations within their synth architecture anyways. I'm definitely going to be trying the demo soon.

So far I like the Magma demo I'm trying out. Though I would like an easier way to add preset modulations. I like that you can draw in your MSEG shapes, but being that you can use the MSEG as a step sequencer, it would be nice it Nomad Factory made it easier to draw in the steps. You basically have to do a bunch of clicking to set up a step sequence of 16 steps. For example, Logic X has it's new midi Arp grid that you can just click on the steps and they will show up as a block. In Magma you have to adjust all these nodes and place them in the right positions to make a step. Very tedious. But all the mod options available is a big improvement for using LFOs and Env. The range of effects is a lot of fun to go through as well.

UPDATE: v1.6.3 fixes the crashing that used to happen with Slate Digital VBC (when attempting to use VBC in the Magma plugin chainer).
Thank you, NF!

UPDATE: 1.6.4 - Sound engine in Studio One latest built, 64 bit, is a terrible mess when turning knobs or simply mouse clicking in an empty space in the magma gui.

I know I'm a bit late but I just wanted to say 'thanks very much for implementing the forward/backward buttons'. It makes a big difference and it is great to know that you are listening. MFX Audio Inc./ Nomad Factory
Are you talking about MAGMA FX, or ?, please let me know what products,
Thank you in advance,
Bernie
Ermm ... all of them pretty much ... it is a pain not being able to scroll through presets easily. But, in order of priority, Magma, Magnetic II and Echoes first please!
Thanks very much for the long post and clarification of certain issues. FWIW your products are great AND you hopefully will not encounter many users of cracked versions on KVR.

Having tried out Magma on and off over a few incremental updates since its release, and always found it crashing in Logic, I decided to try out Magma 1.6.4 in Logic 9 with 10.6.8 as some Logic bug fixes were listed in the changes list. Sadly, it crashed Logic fatally without warning or chance to save, just while clicking through FX units in one slot in Rack A.cyphersuit wrote:UPDATE: 1.6.4 - Sound engine in Studio One latest built, 64 bit, is a terrible mess when turning knobs or simply mouse clicking in an empty space in the magma gui.

I am tempted by Magma, but it appears as unstable as loads of other NF plugins I've had experiences with over the years. This is a real shame because they do have potential.
I would buy it like a shot at the right price if the bugs were ironed out. I could see it being useful in certain creative situations.

Great plugin, makes creating custom chains with modulation a pleasure
The manual suggest the plugins can be loaded indiividually in your host, which makes me think there are individual VSTs of each of the MFX.
Ive hunted high and low for them

Is this so and where are they?- These effects will also load as individual plug-ins in your favorite DAW.

I'm thinking about buying MAGMA, and also very much interested in an answer to this question.VariKusBrainZ wrote:G

Being able to use the included effects individually in the DAW would be fantastic.

However they've all got the file suffix .mfx, not .dll as you'd expect for a VST2 plugin, or .vst3 as you'd expect for a VST3 plugin. Hence Im not convinced that many hosts would actually 'scan' them to see if they're valid plugins in the first place.
I tried a quick test of copying a plugin into a valid VST2 path, and renaming the suffix to .dll but Bidule still didnt recognise it as a valid plugin.

Recently I purchased Magma, and I'm very satisfied with this FX. Magma sounds great, it has nice interface and easy layout. However, I've some wishes for potential future updates:
- Internal and external sidechain routing.
- Option for effect comparison (e.g. as A/B) in slots.
- I like Envelope detector and Pitch detector modulation sources in my TC FireworX. I'd like to have it also in Magma. Effect settings modulated by incoming audio signal could create fantastic results.
- Additional amp and cabinet items.
Best,
Janusz
