Notes: Working with MauSynth turned out to be (again) a bit of a hassle: either my PC is rapidly turning into a museum piece, or my memory is falling apart - 'cause I remembered this synth being fairly light on CPU and performing good overall. Of course, that was not the case I guess rendering is poor artist's best friend (or something like that) Anyway, my wife came up with the song title, I made the damn little thing, my kid chewed all the cables in the house...the end...for now

Traipsing Thru Terror is my humble third submission to a KVR One-Synth-Challenge. This track exclusively uses the "Double Harmonic Scale" (AKA the Arabic/Byzantine Scale).

Aha. The sounds in your piece tonedef71 reminded me of Funtastic's "Zorba the Greek" - perhaps it's the synth, but your explanation of the "Double Harmonic Scale" (AKA the Arabic/Byzantine Scale) makes sense. Nice middle-eastern feel.

Not a bad, dance-style synth (made even more fun by your track). Not sure if Traipsing thru terror is the best title tho - as it actually had a positive vibe - despite the achordal parts in it. Quite unusual that.

Right. You've inspired me, tonedef. I'm gunna have a go . . .

I dig your track (I hope to make a track like this at some point, once I figure out how to do it).

After listening to it a couple of times, I think it might benefit from more discernible variation and development. Goa trance music is typically repetitive in nature; variation can be achieved via the creative use of external modulation effects and via the addition of interesting vocal samples and such. Unfortunately, those techniques are against the rules of this contest, so some creative use of the MauSynth synthesizer itself, some MIDI automation techniques, and/or additional theme development might be some of the techniques at your disposal.

Thanks. And You're right vocals and some sound tweeks would have been nice. I don't know enough about FL yet to know how to do some of the other things you mention, effectively. I would have liked to have run some counter theme to the lead, but just didn't come up with anything that seemed to fit. I could have tried out some gated riffs for some added variation as well.

Hello once again,

Here are the specs of my song:

Reaper x64 as a DAW on a PC with windows 7

16 midi tracks playing a total of 16 MauSynth modules.

I just used many instances of the following effects (Reaper internal effects):
-4 band eq: equalizer
-ReaXcomp: multiband compressor


I really liked many features of this synth:
-The stereo slider was very useful for the mixing of the tracks.
-The sensitivity and glide sliders were very inspiring when playing the part, I loved it!.
-A good set of presets.

The only thing I really wish is a more precise control for many of the knobs, mainly the many Frequency knobs and the time knob for the Delay.

The MauSynth synth inspired me for experimentation with intensity variations of the instruments. I really enjoyed making this song!

Redo, rework, remix, what have you. I shortened it, sped it up slightly and re-did some of the EQs in this track. I also added a couple of goodies and took out a couple of vestigial sounds. Thanks for the great comments on the previous version- hope this one is better!

Only Mausynth 1.1 in Cantabile extended with Insert Piz Here - midiChords, Phrazor organizing and controlling midi streams, with Limiter 6 and Ambiance as FX. The audio stems from Cantabile were brought into Sony Acid Pro 7 for Arranging and Mixing with Sony Track EQ, Ambience, and Limiter 6 as FX.

This month's workflow changed the outcome quite a bit, as many will hear this song is quite different direction from my previous songs partly to the addition of Phrazor and Sony Acid Pro. Enjoy! and please leave feedback, if possible.

Some more info ...
-Using Algorithmix scored a DR9.
-From Cantabile brought in 12 unique MauSynth audio stems which were then chopped, arranged, and mixed Sony Acid Pro7. Care was taken to keep stems larger than one measure to keep away from OSC one-shot rule.
-Project done in A Major / 100 bpm @ 4/4
