Creative routing in Cubase 4.5. Can I do what I'm proposing?

A have a lead line that I have duplicated, panned one left and the other right, and then applied different FX to each. Then I have sent them both to a single group track for some additional FX.

However....

This method has two immediate issues:
a) changes in the synth preset are not replicated on the other instance; and
b) CPU usage.

So...

Is it possible to creatively route a single track into two separate ones?
Is there a plugin for this perhaps?

I still can't understand your question totally. But...if i am understanding this right...why did you duplicated your synth anyway? You can have one synth, create two audio tracks, route to them, pan one left, one right, apply fx, then group them as you do and again apply fx as you do. That way you will have one single instance of synth and when you change preset it is audible accordingly in all routed channels and you don't need two synths for that..

edit: and yes that should be doable. In the same way you did with your two synth..

kmonkey: Yep you understood correctly.

I think this problem has arisen because I very seldom use Instruments from the top drop down menu (can't recall exact terminology off hand). Instead I just add instrument track from the left hand side. The only time I use Instruments is when using multiple outputs.

So I add an instrument, it creates an audio track.
You're saying I can then duplicate this audio track?
Win!!!!

What i am saying is that you can add empty audio tracks and route existing "instrument" track to these empty tracks. Should not be a problem and with that topology you can do exactly what you asked for.

This is do-able - I use this a lot

Basically create two mono groups and a stereo one - the two mono groups are routed to the stereo one.

The two mono groups should be hard panned right and left - apply your affects here

The trick is to use two sends from your synth track to the mono groups - set these pre fader and then bring the fader to 0 -

The less obvious bit is to use the send panners - these are by default hidden when you are in the channel inspector, but right click on the sends pane and it should allow you to show them.

If you then hard pan your two sends to the mono groups left and right you will preserve any stereo information in the signal coming from the vst

And now you can apply your different fx in the mono groups for your super stereo in real time

hope that helps
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Thanks guys. This will make more sense when I'm sitting in front of it tonight.
Will report back a little later 8)
