Anthology Celtic Wind and Kontakt Player

Hey guys,

I'm a pretty dedicated fan of EastWest's libraries, and so far, theirs are the only sample libraries I own. However, thanks to Eduardo Tarilonte, that's about to change! I do a lot of Celtic-style music, and Eduardo's Anthology Series and Era Medieval Legends are both exactly what I need to do what I do better. I especially need the whistles in Anthology Celtic Wind, and the Uilleann Pipes in there are better than the ones I have now too.

The trouble is, I don't own Kontakt. And currently, it's going for $400 new (unless there's some kind of deal I'm not aware of). I can't reconcile spending what'll turn out to be $600, for 3 whistles and better Uilleann Pipes!

So can someone confirm for me that Kontakt 5's free player version will not work with Anthology? Is Tarilonte by any chance planning on releasing a version for Best Service's Engine? Or is getting the full Kontakt 5 my only option?

I believe these are only in the Engine format (Best Service) and I believe the player comes free with the instrument.

BTW - I own Eduardo's previous releases and they are great. Very wet though so be aware in case you don't want all that FX (you can modify them in Engine)

Hey dsan, and thanks. I know that Era comes with Best Service's Engine, and that's not a problem. I'm hoping to buy that collection shortly.

My question was more as it pertains to Anthology Celtic Wind. Best Service's site only lists it as being compatible with Kontakt, and it says that the free player version won't work. I'm wondering if that's still the case now with Kontakt 5 (it was 2 when Celtic Wind was released). Will the library not function at all with the free Kontakt 5 Player? Or will I simply lose the ability to edit/modify the instruments and things like that?

I'm sorry for misunderstanding. I read Eduardo Tarilonte and knew he uses Engine for his instruments so didn't read your post thoroughly. (And had forgotten he had worked on Anthology).

I actually have this album also (and love it) but I use it in the full version of Kontakt(K5 now).

According to the Best Service page, it will work in the player; however, with limited functionality (you definitely won't be able to do much, if any, modification - maybe volume is about it). More importantly, in the player you can only do Demo mode which means it will time out and then you'll have to reload it. You will need to DL the player from Native Instruments though since this album does not come with it.

Personally I'd wait on this one and save up for the full version of Kontakt, or see if you can find someone in market place having an older version for sale.

Kontakt is definitely worth it as there are so many 3rd party instruments and so much you can do with it. But if all you are after is these two albums you're right, seems quite extravagant.

You may also want to consider monitoring Bela D's website as they sometimes throw their titles on sale. (As does Best Service). Not often [enough] though.

Follow up to your question about a release of Anthology in Engine - Highly UNLIKELY as this was released by Bela D Music, and belongs to them, when Eduardo was working for them.

When he went on his own he decided to go with Engine. I had emailed him to see if he planned to release Ethno World and Forest Kingdom in Kontakt and he said no because of the NI restrictions (and costs) on libraries.

Oh, I see. I knew he had been a part of Bela D Media, but I never realized he had left at some point. That does clear things up though, thanks.

As for Kontakt, I guess you're right about me needing to just go for the full version. I guess what I really need to do is discover more Kontakt libraries that would be beneficial for me to own. Then spending $400 on it will be a bit easier to handle!

When it comes to orchestral instruments and [most] ethnic instruments, I'm completely satisfied with the EastWest libraries I own. I suppose from here checking out some synth, soundscape, and choral libraries might be a good idea... or maybe some element of VI's I haven't even considered yet. If Kontakt can facilitate those, it'll make buying it easier to stomach.

In any case, I'm definately not forgetting about Anthology. It may be a bit longer before I can get it, but if it's as good as its demos/reviews, it'll be worth the wait.

It occurred to me that as a work around you could always lay down the track and get it where you want it, even though you may have to load the instrument multiple times in Kontakt player and then once you have what you want, bounce to audio. That will take the player out of the loop (so to speak).

NI has sales every now and then so it may be a good idea to watch them. Since you are new you probably don't know about watching developers through KVR. You can do this via the "myKVR" page. And it may be a good idea to sign up at NI to get notifications too.

With the limited choices for the type of instrument you want you will certainly want to go with Anthology at some point. I had a time trying to find flutes like these so when I ran across Anthology I jumped on it and glad I did. Thank goodness for devs like Eduardo!

BTW - Welcome to KVR. I hope you find it interesting and a great learning experience.

do you have that sennheiser drummica library? it's free, and rumors say that it is eligible for crossgrade to full kontakt. occasionally NI have sales on it; it has been as cheap as $139 for a crossgrade version at one point.

alternately... if it can live in K4, there are a few older versions of komplete on ebay for less than $400 (at least one is $269), and these will include kontakt.

Thanks for the welcome, I've learned a decent bit through this thread alone! I didn't know you could do that with KVR, I'm glad I happened to stumble upon this forum! I'll definately be watching NI in case Kontakt goes on sale. Going for an older edition may be a good option, but my gut tells me that if I'm going to have to get Kontakt, I might as well go for the most current stuff.

I'm also planning on checking around the local music stores in my area. I'm not sure they'd be any cheaper, but it's worth a try, and there's always the benefit of not having to pay shipping.
