The Fall are pretty well known but anyone remember the other major (but less well known these days) band that came out of the Manchester Musicians Collective: The Passage?

They were another of my favourite electronic bands of the late 70's, still have their first album on Vinyl (only 5,000 copies were printed). One of the things I liked most about their music was its sensuality, listen to Watching You dance for example, the way the voice starts off just as a whisper and never full rises about the haunting synth playing and distant drums:

Yep, definitely know this one. I still have my own vinyl copy of "Pindrop". Really liked it then. Listened to it many, many times. In fact, that song you mentioned there still sounds great. My own favorites from that album are "2711" (with a comical text referring to the eau de cologne with a similar name) and "Competition" (definitely showed their punk roots).

btw don't know about all the CD reissues of the Ludus stuff but the one I did buy (the one with "The Visit" on) was so badly mastered and in fact so unlike the original version (e.g. the guitar playing is completely different to the original 12") it made me think they had lost the original masters and used a demo or something.

Just got the BBC Peel sessions on CD (finally!) - had some of these on cassette tape for years. I think the JP version of "Shave Your Head" was the first thing I heard by them. I recall being mildly disappointed that Dick Witts sang it on the album which I bought on the basis of that one track - it's still a great song but I prefer the Peel version with Lizzy's singing - one of my favourite songs from that era.
