Exactly what copyright laws are Bitwig violating?Perhaps if they called themselves AbletonWig,then they'd have a legal issue to wrestle with.skipkent wrote:Looking at the first video from MM, my guess is they have a product but that it's WAY too close to Ableton Live and things are in a legal limbo. I think it'll be cats and more cats for some time to come.
Not only is Bitwig a different color scheme, but also...Ableton has a more abstract design, whereas the controls in Bitwig resemble hardware knobs & such.
Do you honestly think that Bitwig would jeopardize 4 years of research and development, just to try and make a "mirror image" of Ableton?

TheoM wrote:Well its also possible that indeed the GUI ripoff of live (that's not just similar but literally live with a black skin and browser on the right and the most blatant GUI plagiarism I have ever seen) might have them in legal hot water.
Uploaded with ImageShack.comOh yeah...right you are dude, with this scandalous similarity,I think Bitwig is sucking around for a major legal battle.
I think you owe it to all of us who are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Bitwig,to contact Bitwig and apprise them of the impending lawsuit that is bound to take place soon...so that Bitwig will halt production and save us all from wasting all of our time waiting for a DAW that will never come to pass.

Has anyone seen this? http://www.bitwigbeats.com/bitwig-beats-update-july/
"Here at Bitwig Beats, not only have we been testing for Bitwig, but we are still currently in the process of making some videos and guides for release day and hope to have a collection of articles and videos all prepared in time for new users to read through and help them understand Bitwig Studio."
So soon?!! I can see the similarities between Bitwig and Live anyway, the clip launcher looks very similar as do the instrument and fx guis, almost looks live Live has been reskinned on some stuff but unless they've redesigned it don't think that's been the hold up. They're closer than any other two hosts anyway.

I'm not the one making frivolous speculations as to why Bitwig hasn't been released yet.standalone wrote:My opinion is better than yours, that's why it is highlighted.
So yeah,my opinion is better than some others here, because my views are more realistic & logical.
Look at all of the designs Behringer has emulated with regard to their studio monitors.
Behringer has clearly mimicked brands like Genelec and Focal monitors...and yet, they've never had a copyright lawsuit against them.

I chose these screens to show one of the most obvious differences, which is that the volume & other parameter control knobs are very different from each other.TheoM wrote:You're hilarious. I could choose two unrelated screens from even the same daw and they'd look different. If you're gonna do a pic comparison at least make it a valid one.

But there are many people who have seen it and used it. Anyone who stopped by their booth at winter NAMM or MusikMesse could not only see it but could also try it out. The version of the application they demonstrated was functional. I encountered quite a few KVR people at winter NAMM, in addition to myself, who got a chance to play with it (I wasn't at Messe, so I only know what I heard).LawrenceF wrote:What's really amazing is that beta test can run so long and not have any leaks. This is assuming that the beta has actually been running a year or more.
Seriously, not a peep. Not a guy who claims to have heard from a guy on the beta team, nothing. For people who kinda talked too early about the product, they seem to have made sure testers didn't blab.
They must be summarily executing beta test leakers.
I think the silence from beta testers just shows that there are folks still do respect NDAs, to which they agreed.
I have no idea when BWS will be released. I have no "insider" information to share but I'm not going to participate in any speculation either. It will be released when it is released.
