And I wonder if Philharmonik will also get a 64 bit version. Since it is built on the same engine (I believe) that should be no big deal and would be highly appreciated.donato wrote:My only question is will the promised 64 bit free player be launched alongside the paid new version, or will we have to wait longer for the free player?

OT: I'm still 32 bit. I'd have to give up too much to switch to my processor's 64 bit mode. I read about how others are missing their old software and I wonder why they switched to 64 bit.
I'm always curious as to why so many people are against using a perfectly good bridge.

Not sure I can follow. What would you lose running a 64-bit OS? You can still run the 32-bit version of your DAW and have more RAM available.androidlove wrote:OT: I'm still 32 bit. To answer a few questions that have come up in the thread:
1. As stated elsewhere, there will be one SampleTank engine. This is how it works today, and many use the main SampleTank interface to run all of their Powered By SampleTank libraries. This will be the work flow going forward.
2. We have made no concrete decisions about pricing/upgrades, including free or "player" versions at this time so I cannot answer that question yet.
3. We also have made no decision about a Custom Shop for SampleTank at this point either.
Nothing conclusive, unfortunately, but that's the information I have at this point.

I asked this before Peter, but you never responded. Will using Sampletank 3 and using the total workstation plus sonic reality sound expansions hurt my load times though? If I try to use the current sampletank 2.5 like this, my load times are insanely slow, and this is even when relist on startup is off.
Any idea's, I don't think one should have to be punished for buying more sounds when it comes to booting up and using the software.

I didn't see the question. I have no idea what the load times will be, we don't have a version that would be benchmarked at this time. Typically we wouldn't compare that until we have a release candidate ready. The whole engine is overhauled, though, so I'd bet that almost every (if not all) performance metrics will be greatly improved.trusampler wrote:I asked this before Peter, but you never responded. Relist being off should make load times very short typically, I hope you've brought this up to support. With relist on startup off, there's no "punishment" for any amount of sounds.

I use jBridge with ST and it does work wonders, but I do get a lot of hangups when loading projects. It is far from a perfect solution.4lb Kitty wrote:jBridge works wonders!androidlove wrote:I'm eager to call the powerful on their claims, but...

That's disappointing. I thought a few months ago you said there would be a free 64-bit player version. I know I would be extremely disappointed if there weren't. I may or may not upgrade to 3 if there is a free player, but I am likely to join the account giveaway crowd and swear off IK if there isn't a free player available. Just something for you guys to think about as I'm sure there are many others who feel this way. In any case, I look forward to the release.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:2. Hmmm that doesn't bode well....it seems like this decision will have to made before coding can continue.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:3. We also have made no decision about a Custom Shop for SampleTank at this point either.

Don't read too much into it. A few weeks ago, I listened to the acoustic pianos, from IK's iPad product - playing this for a few minutes on a weighted piano with decent Yamaha studio monitors.
This was in a store with lots of excellent quality Yamaha gear, S90's, Motif and other high quality digital pianos.
Verdict, the piano samples were - off the hook - quite impressive. Quite realistic. The only thing missing was sympathetic resonance, which is neither here nor there.
The quality was so good, that I almost took a decision to buy an iPad and this piano, for live gigs. The only thing was I do more work in my home studio than live shows, so the iPad as a sound source is a bit limited for me. I'm a bit of a snob who prefers to play weighted keys 100% of the time, so if I have to carry this for my live gigs, the weight savings of an iPad is not really significant to me.
What I needed was a version of this piano on a PC or MAC.
If all the instruments in Sampletank 3 are of a similar quality, and they do not include fillers for the sake of making larger gigabyte claims, then Sampletank 3 will be a keeper.
Peter please ensure that you include the sounds that I heard on the iPad version, which were "ear opening".
What we need is a really good collection of usable sounds, of much higher quality than what ST2 provided, and the iPad piano certainly sounded like a significant departure from the tame quality of ST2 pianos.
My 3 cents.

Better still if we can have these sounds in Sampletank 3 on PC/Mac as well as on iPad, we have a blockbuster.kodebode2 wrote:A few weeks ago, I listened to the acoustic pianos, from IK's iPad product - playing this for a few minutes on a weighted piano with decent Yamaha studio monitors.

Please make the presets of outstanding quality with:
1. Imitative sounds of realistic instruments, of high quality, such as the piano I described above.
2. Purely synthetic sounds, which are not directly derived from real instruments
3. Hybrids - such as the sounds we find on many popular workstations such as the Motif, which usually have a sampled origin, but have been enhanced with layering of samples and effects, to create imitative sounds that retain the hint of their original acoustic sources, but just as the pianos on a Yamaha Motif or Motif ES, are certainly not very authentic, but nevertheless have become the new "piano", that many who listen to pop hear - and prefer to the real thing.
Ultimately it will come down to the sound quality. How inspiring does it sound, does it inspire one to play and play and play, and compose new music.
if it inspires you into fresh new music, and has a good collection of spectacular sounds, like the Motif, Korg Triton, Roland XV, thats what people like me need, a 1 stop shop, for a sensible price.

The samples for iGrand Piano for iPad are derived directly from SampleTank 3 sounds.
