it certainly works and is pretty cool seeing ableton on the ipad .. but is it user friendly? .. not really. controlling sliders etc is very flakey and imprecise and parallels only supports pinch/zoom gestures on programs that have zoom.. the general ableton screen doesn't sadly..
Worked pretty well on some photo stuff i tried tho .. not for $80 a year tho..

I've been trying this out this evening with my MacBook Air and my PC desktop. It's a *little* laggy with both, but bearable. Performance is definitely a notch better with the MBA than with the PC here. Also, it rearranged my desktop icons and hid my taskbar after I shut the client off on my PC - kind of annoying.
Honestly, the idea sounds pretty cool, but I didn't find it to be a very tactile or precise way of working, at least not for the apps I tried it with (MS Word, Excel, and Logic Pro X on the MBA; Photoshop, Lightroom, and Waves Element on the PC). Of those apps, Word was probably the best fit for working from Access/iPad. The others, particularly Logic, Photoshop, and Lightroom, weren't all that easy to navigate from the iPad and I really hated having so little screen real estate to work with. Also, once the trial is over (14 days on Mac, 90 days on the PC beta), it looks like you'll have to pay an annual subscription of $80. Not sure that it would be worth it to me, but I'll give it a few more tries with other apps and see if it changes my mind.
edit: ^^^looks like Shane and I pretty much agree!

I hadn't heard of this app. Will check it out.
I use Air Playit and Team Viewer (both free).

I tried with splashtop and WindowsXP on an iPad2 to control aalto VST. Wisth splashtop you can redirect audio to ipad as well. So it works but actual user experience was frustrating due to lag, control imprecision etc and I didn't feel I'd try it again.

Ah. Interesting. I find Splashtop to be extremely responsive. I'm interested in knowing how Parallels compares to Splashtop. Though I haven't tried any music apps. I've played a few games and generally use it to show someone in the office a new feature I'm working on (I'm a software developer). It's nice to bring over my iPad and show them the feature real quick so I can get some feedback.

For myself who is a Windows user I would prefer that I would be able to use iPad software on my Windows 7/8 touch-screen. There are so few apps for Windows 7/8 and Surface Pro that a wrapper or other method to accomplish this in an efficient manner would be great as a workaround until the app is made specifically for Window.
But I certainly support any one trying to achieve the OP. I just may find myself using such an App.

Here's another app that allows you to work your PC from your iPad:
https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/id36487 ... Id=1777029
And I have high hopes for iOS emulation on PC from this developer:
