Hey, original artist here. I agree with a lot of the points in the thread re. age should not affect interpretation of music/criticism is a necessity, so thanks to everyone that provided some constructive criticism.
About Sonic being generic, yes, it is.
Thanks for taking the time to listen, even if you hated it :)

there's two kinds of music in this world and one of them occurs when musicians do their job well. this isn't it.

there's crap in the world. vaunting it to 'something really special' enables crap. have I seen Bill Carroll over to the Music Cafe here supporting people? that's bullshit, Bill. what you did is have a go at people here rather than grant them to space to use the forum too.

I was 16 once. It was believed I could become a musician at some future time. I was exposed to adults for a few years before that. when I played crap there was no illusion about it. this is mediocre ideas that seem executed hastily and mixed very poorly. this is not musicianship, this is someone imitating <Famous Producers>. Good for him! Everyone finds their level and at stages. Now it's out in the world and it's up for opinions though.

so it's a sign of a poor disposition to be frank? whatever. it wouldn't be said if this wasn't pushed as something really special. the world is going down the toilet, and I have to agree with it? I don't.

Grow up Bill, and that goes for the people giving him a big hand for this ill-disposed behavior. I'm not bashing the kid. Is he here? If your tag is 'producer' rather than 'musician' get some production chops. You're not ready for prime time, don't let people's strokes go to your head. That's how shit was put to me when I was younger than this.

You're having a go at people on the internet, man. I'm irritated by the idea this is something really special. That is BLEAK to me. I have my view and I don't think insulting me for it shows me how to behave better.
I disagree about the imitating. Humanity learns and improves by copying. It's how little toddlers learn to speak. They imitate, they copy. Everything is already a remix. Stop fighting this concept and embrace it. It's part of the core of humanity and it comes clearly to the surface in music. To improve without copying first is impossible.

So for any producer or composer of however you want to call them, and I am not talking about a musician here. I am talking about a new generation of "producers and composers" that don't play an instrument, or don't start making music by starting to learn how to play an instrument. The main reason they start making music is the internet. In this case my friend Aloysius listened a lot to Madeon and Deadmau5. And he got curious how the music was made, used a little google and downloaded FL Studio. And that's how a lot of youngsters get in to our hobby of making music. Aloysius does not have a midi controller and he also never played the piano or any other instrument in his life. He only has a laptop, FL Studio and the knowledge of the internet. And so does all the rest of the youngster. But not everybody has talent, dedication and a passion/soul for music. Or the patience to try until you make progress.

So he started by copying a sound and that is really the best way of learning. His own style? Hopefully that will come later. No, non of this is special on it's own. And I listen to a lot of these soundcloud profiles were youngsters try to emulate a certain sound or style. Soundcloud is probably full with kids trying to make dubstep but that's not the style I search for.

But in this case I was surprised! Most music I encounter on soundcloud is boring on my brains. Boring and uninspired. That's a personal thing because my brain hearing centrum enjoys musicality far over the quality or technicality of the sound.

And yes, I also heard an overuse of reverb and a whole lot of technical mistakes or techniques that need more work and a better understanding.

But where I normally within 5 seconds start skipping through a soundcloud song trying to find something my brain would like to hear. In the case, with the first song I heard from Aloysius I thought: Wait a minute, I enjoy this!

And that's what music is all about. Now of course there is personal preference.
Like learning to enjoy drinking beer you need to learn how to enjoy certain types of music.
And when you repeat stuff enough your brain will be like: Ah this pattern again, I better start enjoying it soon or it will torment me next time.

So I already liked this kind of music: lot of high pitched tones, sounds you hear in computergame music, but the most important for me personaly: musicality, chords and progressions that I can enjoy, simple melodies that make me curious about what is coming next. Most music on the internet I encounter is not a journey or is not telling a story.

So that's why I made this impulsive post. And that's why I fully acknowledge that Aloysius has a great talent, and a desire to make music that has emotions and musicality. Something that I very rarely encounter on soundcloud especially with youngsters that don't play an instrument and make their music with FL Studio or similar programs.

Think what he can make when he starts to learn an instrument. (I hope piano)
When he starts learning music theory. When he finds a mentor that wants to share his knowledge and passion. When he gets better equipment.

Yep, Aloysius is going to make some great music in the future. I am convinced of that. I have been chatting with him now and then and one day we will hopefully collab a little bit and make some music we both enjoy. And if he is going to be a hard worker ... the internet will hear more of him when he develops!

It's all about progress, but the starting seed sets the minimax parameters. And to have this starting seed when only 17, well that just sets the potential very high.
