a bit of research reveals that many 'acid artists' actually use (303)software, and have done for some years, so i wouldnt say the statement is true.

ahh... just saying, if they get 100 random submissions from net bangers every day, they might just say 'eh, don't bother if you don't have a real 303', most of the chumps will be scared off, and the a&r guy can actually get some good xbox time in, rather than be stuck listening to more generic boring acid music.

probably plenty of other ways for guys who are good to get something in their hands anyways (friends of friends etc, people they find at shows/festivals, etc), and like you said, no one else except them really knows for sure anyways so no one is going to call them on it...
