Hello,

i have an opportunity to buy a Korg Lambda for 175$ canadian.

Anyone care to submit their impressions on this synth ?

I have googled it already but would also like to hear from fellow musicians.

I stupidly passed up an opportunity to get one of these last week. It is not as much a synth, as it is a string machine/brass thing. There is very little you can do in the way of "normal" synth parameters, but there is still quite a bit of flexibility. The price you are giving is a good deal, if you know what you are getting. It aint gonna be a bass synth, you know what I mean?

Not a classic, but not a bad unit for a cheap price.

I know its very limited but its seems to be a superior alternative to solina and farfisa string machines...

I used to own one of these back in the 80's (cost me over $1000 at the time...yikes!); it was actually the second synth/keyboard/whatever that I ever bought. I really loved its overall string sound, and the way you could easily blend other sounds like the pseudo-choir, pianos and brass in together as well.

It also had a really nice, wide flat top that was perfect for stacking other synths on top of.

No MIDI of course (came out well before MIDI was even around), but still a really nice-sounding unit.

It's strings don't sound remotely the same as the Solin/Arp sound, but they are good in their own right, and probably the Lambda's strong suit. I love the sound, myself. John Dyson of Wavestar got some good mileage from the Sigma, I think, and this string sound is very much like that. The Lamda has three detuned oscillators, so it is thick, thick, thick.

Damn, I wish I had bought it. I actually called the shop today to put it on hold, but I had just missed it!

Sorry to hear that you missed out on this unit.
I may just buy it.

If I dont lke it, I will let you know and sell it to you for the same price I bought it okay ?

So I finally gave in at 150$CA.
A good price in my book.

What's interesting is that the sounds that come straight out of this box are what other synths often try hard to emulate...

Good souding machine and lush strings.

I had one of these in the mid 90s and it soon became the center piece of some much loved tracks. Unfortunately I sold it though and wouldnt mind getting another one now that I have space for it. At the very least I would love to know if there is a good emulation out there.

Also... ES-50 is the model number...

Korg Lambda anyone ?
