I'd be happy to share some of my settings, but don't have a clue as to how to rip them out of the synth, nor do I have a place to post them. Perhaps a page on OSC/KVR could be made?

Settings as in presets? There is a dedicated part of KVR for that - if you go here: http://www.kvraudio.com/product/mausynt ... a-kauppila - click on the 'banks and patches' tab, and the upload.Robert West wrote:I'd be happy to share some of my settings, but don't have a clue as to how to rip them out of the synth, nor do I have a place to post them. As for project files, just download dropbox, move your files into the dropbox public folder, then right click and get the drop box URL, and share the URL. Drop box is the standard for filing sharing from what I can tell.

Cool on the page and dropbox thing, but how are the settings/patches/presets, whatever you want to call them, gotten out of the synth?bjporter wrote:Settings as in presets? I don't see any submission information from you, so can't tell what DAW you use. Did you tell us how many instances, daw, and effects you used somewhere? If not, can you edit your submissions post with that info so it's legit? ThanksRobert West wrote:Cool on the page and dropbox thing, but how are the settings/patches/presets, whatever you want to call them, gotten out of the synth?bjporter wrote:Settings as in presets? **EDIT**
In cubase I find the folder where VST3 presets are, and then use FXTractor program to convert those to .fxp presets. Put them in a zip folder, and share.

Thanks, totally saw the wrong one...
Does this help?

Making a Mono / Fury snare - PART 1

Introduction
You might be able to do it with 1 instance, but I almost always use 2, for more control.
Here's what it sounds like after Parts 1 & 2:
https://soundcloud.com/bjporter/a-littl ... fury-snare
Let's start with the first instance:
The Upper Layer (Click to enlarge)

This is what gives the snare its roughness, and snap. Start with the 'init' patch, and work your way from there. You need to lower all the oscillator volumes, and turn up the noise. Then to make it snappy, adjust the Voltage Control Amplitude envelope.
The Lower Layer (Click to enlarge)

This is what gives the snare its thump. Start with the 'init' patch again, and work your way to the picture. Lower all oscillators, except for oscillator #2, and make sure to set the Freq MOD knob, for pitch modulation. Also set the 2 envelopes, and the filter intensity correctly. The KBD track should be 0.
Your snare note should be between D3# and G3# depending on how you like it. That is between around 150 to 200hz.
Hope that helps

Making a Mono / Fury snare - PART 2

The Signal Chain
PLEASE READ PART 1! Basically the idea here is to group / bus the Upper & Lower parts, and apply some compression.
**Click Picture to enlarge / zoom**

The transient designer should give the lower part a bit more snap. The limiter gives the snare a lot more thud at the top end. The maximizers glue everything together and bring out a lot of the frequencies for more roughness (almost more acoustic / real). The EQ will remove unnecessary frequencies that should not be in a snare. When you maxmimize/compress/limit things, a lot of unneeded frequencies tend to come in. A very steep EQ high pass filter should be employed to remove these.
I'll add more information later. But that's just the basic idea of what I did. The maximization and limiting was VERY STRONG.

Yeah.
Add some taste of reverb on your preset, it helps to get 2nd and 3rd answer of steel metal wires on the snare's membrane.
The dynamic DSP is extremely important but as usually
. Instead of limiter and maximizer, you may use only compressor with quite heavy distortion of input signal.
Best regards,
SNoise

Seems with the current synth Mono/Fury's free running oscillators there will not really be a consistent single sound and especially when it comes to bassdrum so in this case you should probably not use samples for that.crimsonwarlock wrote:OK, got a question about the rules. This one is not completely clear to me:First, if I program a bass drum that is consistently produced by the synth, can I then sample it to reduce cpu-loads (same for other drum sounds)?Sampling for example a bass drum in order to get a consistent sound is not allowed either.
Secondly, we are allowed to layer sounds from the synth, so if I build a layered sound and want to sample it for lowering cpu-loads, do I need to use seperate samples for the layers or am I allowed to use a sample of the 'complete' sound. Of course in all cases I would be able to prove that all sounds where originally made with the synth.
??
The question of layering synths was up just recently so a line about is already in the rules: "Unless specifically announced before the competition, you must use only one virtual synthesizer for all sounds including percussion. Layering several instances of the synth is allowed."

Very cool! Of course this is not the first time we get a mention in the magazine thanks to Objectman:Doc Jon wrote:I see in the new copy of Computer Music the OSC gets a promotional mention, together with news of a link up between the mag and the competition
Very interesting, can't wait for more news on this...

Heh. Every time someone mentions that letter, I feel famous in small circles. And wonder when I'm actually gonna use Fabfilter as this comp is the only time I get to make music.V'ger wrote:Very cool! They're always angling CM Magazine - and I suspect KVR Forum, too. "Angling" in all the right businessy ways and it seems, quite willing to promote us little folk. I speak for myself here (although having said that I do stand proud for 45yrs at a promising 5ft 8 point 5 inches ... growth spurt pending).
They'd be nuts not to run a comp with the (almost free) CM Studio synths. Grow us little folk another inch or two.
Y'never know tho. We might sell a KVR album for $5. That's 12.5c each based on the last comp. A couple of redskins in a white paper bag.
Or at the other end of the scale, it might lead to an Electronic X-Factor. There's an idea. Oldies like me could wear motorbike helmets to hide our age!! (although my 1991 "Aciiiid" grandpa club dance would reveal all I'm sure).
Which issue of the CM mag is this new info in? I couldn't find it.

CM196 'Autumn' issue, arrived by post last weekend so should be in shops this week. Bottom of page 24 in the NEWS sectionobjectman wrote:Which issue of the CM mag is this new info in? I couldn't find it.
The famous One Synth Challenge (OSC) monthly competition has been running for years now via the KVR Audio's forums, challenging participants to create the best song they can using the same synth for all sounds including percussion. The exciting news is that we're teaming up with the organisers to run an OSC based entirely around CM Plugins! At the time of going to press details are still to be confirmed, but if all goes to plan, the contest will be open to entries from 1 to 31 October at which point the two-week voting period will begin. There will be prizes for the winning entries.
We'll announce further details via Facebook and Twitter.
