70s disco drum kit?

I'm trying to go through my drum samples to find a kit that sounds authentically 70s disco. Slate and EZDrummer are out of the question. Not sure there's anything in Battery. Groove Bias might work. I still have more things to go through. I'm wondering though what peoples suggestions are.

Perhaps check out Dry Vintage ADpak for Addictive Drums?

The 'tight kit' from NI Abbey Road 70s Drummer is quite good for seventies disco.

Logic X has some awesome dry retro kits in the new library!
Vintage Vibe from Big Fish Audio has some great 70's and 80's vintage kits!
As mentioned, the Addictive Drums ADpaks have also some great, dry, vintage kits. I recall that there's even a patch called "Disco 77" or something...possibly in the Funk pak (not sure).

The best disco kits are in reason refill disco, imo. Also check drumdrops multitracks. For 10euros and a bit of work (slicing, etc), you'll have the best souding disco kit one can find.

If you dont need ultra realism with >10 velocity layers / RRs, you can try the Pettinhouse Vinyl Drumkits. The Acoustic Pack has nice Disco/Funk stuff, very groovy.

While the sound is nice indeed, I ran into "tightness" problems with it, namely the timing/attack of some HH being a bit off, which can be a show stopper depending on tempi/patterns (where not a single "humanize" function is in use, of course, be it in the host, via script etc.).boogaju wrote:The 'tight kit' from NI Abbey Road 70s Drummer is quite good for seventies disco.

You're not going to get an authentic 70s disco sound ITB, or at most of the modern studios for that matter. Everything has changed since, not least importantly the mindset of engineers and drummers.
Nobody's playing or recording the drums like they did in the 70s, and this also applies to all the sample libraries more or less. Even if they feature vintage drums, mics, gear and tape, they're still aiming for a very clean and natural sound, which is the total opposite of 70s disco.
Your best option is sampling. Most disco tracks have drum-only intros or breaks.
But if you still insist on recreating the sound by yourself, be prepared to use a lot of heavy processing. Grab a good tape saturator like the TB Reelbus and don't be too gentle with it. Go crazy with EQ and compression. Use only plate reverb. Be experimental.
And don't forget a thick layer of percussions and claps!

I disagree. You might take a closer look at the suggestions posted above.teempee wrote:You're not going to get an authentic 70s disco sound ITB, or at most of the modern studios for that matter. Everything has changed since, not least importantly the mindset of engineers and drummers.

It's true that you will need to "play" (on a keyboard or pad controller) them in an "authentic" way, too, but that's a skill that can be refined...

The new "Vintage Dry" kit from Addictive Drums would be perfect for that 70s disco sound.

I agree with Tempee, it's very difficult to get good disco sound with the current libraries available
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

This sounds good to me... good enough for what I'm trying to do. I wonder if they ever have sales? Not to sound like a penny pinching bastard.
