Hi
Long time since I was here, but have now got the Steinberg ur22. So finaly I am able to make music again with my new computer.
My problem is that as I record into the ur22 it will only record in one channel, left or right, depending on whether I use line in 1 or 2. I am using the Ai7 cubase.

The UR22 inputs are mono. So you need to feed your signal to both inputs at the same time and Cubase will record it in stereo.
I have the same interface and it's simple but excellent value. Good choice.

so I need to have a cable from my guitar that splits up in two?

You never said you wanted to record a guitar.
A guitar outputs a mono signal so you need to plug it in either line 1 or 2.
Then, in Cubase, you need to created a mono track, not a stereo one.
Your guitar will be panned the middle by default and you can adjust it to your liking.

This is the right answer. You may need to go into VST Connections and create a mono bus.
