Nice job.....it will be wonderful if you will develop random patch button and wavetable synthesis in the near future:)

It's great to see v. 1.02 out already !

Love the speedy updates, and improvements Spire is getting.

Thanks,

Am I being fooled by mr Placebo or has the sound of Spire changed since the 0.9.5 beta? I had the old beta installed on my laptop and then played around with it a bit before installing the latest 1.0.2 version.

I immediately noticed that the default preset that loads up sounds quite a bit more harsh so I started investigating.. it seems like nothing has changed in the actual synth side but the effects section has gotten an overhaul. The distortions seem noticeably nicer in the old version and I could not get these to null.

Is this a bug (like loading up different settings?), am I imagining things (probably not as an identical preset, with drift and all other random stuff turned off doesn't null)?

Please, Reveal Sound, whatever you do.. do NOT sacrifice any sound quality just to improve CPU. That'd be very bad as I think most of us purchased Spire due to how it sounds!

Will try to investigate further as I have all the beta versions since release.

Cheers!

i ad the impression the sound quality is better - for example the hiss of the waveforms is more sharp to my ears, but that a common illusion i guess :D
looking forward to the preset manager now.

I unfortunately don't have a copy of the 0.95 beta handy anymore, but I do notice a certain dirt in the shaper which disappears when you up your sample rate to 88.2kHz instead of 44.1kHz.

The thing is, I actually really like the dirt it adds, but it does sound a little like aliasing to me. Maybe an optional oversample would be a good idea for that module especially, for those who want a crisp clean distortion.

bManic: Do you have any sounds that you could demonstrate use to demonstrate the different tone you hear in the shaper in the old version vs the new?

Also, when attempting to cancel them out, be sure to set your oscillators to start at a particular phase or they will start at a random phase which naturally won't cancel out.

On my rig, I have the lowest patches around 8% asio meter, the majority of them around 20%, a few around 40% and the heaviest patch at 60%. i7 860 @ 2.9Ghz win 7 FL Studio 11.0.3.

I had the same measure for heaviest patches before, but I didn't check in details enough to say that there isn't some optimizations. Just maybe everything is not optimized yet and some patches are still CPU munching while others got a significant CPU reduction ?

I would be interested too in peoples' experiences.

3 factory banks with some stuff eg. from Adam Szabo. But it needs a preset manager which can handle more presets and not only one bank at the same time.

How do you load the other preset banks ? (i.e. where do you install the new banks on PC ) ?

Thanks,

PC intall them automaically in the same folder as the vst... mac's you have to manually install.

you then have to guide the vst where the banks are when you do a load bank....

The additional banks are in the downloaded archive (I think this is not different with the Mac version) and can manually copied to a different location. On the PC they are also installed to the plug-in folder (so normally you don't need to copy them manually).
The preset/bank location is not hard-coded and (unfortunately) Spire also doesn't remember the last location.
With Menu -> Load Bank you can load banks (also single presets).

really annoying (on my mac) to have to constantly re-point to the banks...but a small price to pay for such a dope plugin!

Yes, it's the same on the PC. It would be helpful to have a import history, so if a bank is imported the first time it will be inserted in the history list and can easier be reloaded. Anyway, a preset browser with a "tagging" system for styles, short comment, author is the only professional solution (which hopefully will be implemented with some of the next updates)
