Apple says only 6% are on iOS 5.
They must be expecting a much higher percentage of users not upgrading to 7.
Or maybe I'm missing some points here.

Even if that percentage is correct, it's still a large number of units. And try to look a bit further then yer noise. This is gonna be useful for people stuck on iOS 10 when that new shiny iOS 13 is out...and so on...BMoore wrote: Or maybe I'm missing some points here.

I think you are correct. Sebastian (Audiobus fame) and several other developers are recommending to hold off and not be an early adopter, because there are going to be a LOT of incompatibility issues when iOS7 is first released, which will stay the stampede of early adoption.BMoore wrote:Apple says only 6% are on iOS 5.

Yes. Because this will be Apples goal. Having a shit load of users on many different versions.
And also forcing the developers to support obsolete versions of their apps.

The point with all this is that it will not force devs to support obsolete versions of their apps/older iOS versions. Apple keeps older versions of apps available in the cloud (which in turn = less fragmentation).BMoore wrote:chris1a wrote:Even if that percentage is correct, it's still a large number of units. Good point Chris1a! I hadn't thought of that!

I'm starting to see indications that some devs aren't happy with this decision. I wonder if it is just that they have to maintain too much older data?

As I said. Part of it is that they now have to support older versions of their apps.

Yeah, sorry I meant to imply that support for older stuff could entail different things. Some companies probably already archive everything, others, not so much.BMoore wrote:As I said. Part of it is that they now have to support older versions of their apps.
