Check that you have the latest bios file.
You may need to flash the bios.
Failing that try and discharge the cmos, and reboot with optimum settings.
Sometimes the its not all it seems. I have a mb with 512mb ddr133 and a 2400xp+ that runs at just over 2.1ghz. I also have another that has 512mb ddr166 and a 2500xp+ and yet this one runs at 1.85ghz. Now you would think that being a faster processor and ram it would run faster but no!
Use what is most stable. A few hundred hertz down won't matter much.

1.68Ghz to me is VERY good.

1.67 GHZ is the athlon 2000+
but really.. you bought a 2200 (~1.8ghz) you'd be suprised how much it could mean on some of the bigger audio projects... every hertz counts imo
please keep us informed and let us know what the tech support says!

Sounds like bad RAM Will, maybe this has been mentioned, didn't read the whole thread.
Could also be that the power supply is too weak - how much does it deliver? Should be rated at least 350W.
Apart from that, 256MB RAM is not much, best double-up at least.

Hy guys, thanks blue. I think it was something related to bad "grounding". So far the computer is very very very stable, not a single hang, crash, or reset. So I will keep the settings for 1.68Ghz instead of 1.8Ghz. It was my fault to install the computer without the "grounding", so I can´t bother the guys who sold me the PC. 
Also, this is not the computer I will use to make music, only to make VSTs, and is very fast, faster than my old PC that I did all my VSTs. 
So is all good... now I have to go back to work. Thanks for all who helped me out. At least now I know that the seetings I set on the BIOS are good, just a bit slower than what the actual gear is all about...

Still, if tech support told you some story about faulty grounding I would be VERY skeptical. Still I suppose its possible, I'm a tech not an electrician.

Same with me... My computer can run without ground... Remember that the ground cable is used when a bad connection is made and that your electrical installation has a problem. So if the ground solved the problem, I would check everything in my computer and in my house to find which thing is faulty.floyd wrote:Glad you are happy with it WK.

My first computer was a ZX81, 8 bit and, I think, 8 mhz, 1k internal ram and a 16k bolt on rampack!
Oh, I forgot, a casette tape drive was a must.

Yeah, I got a super fast computer now! Hey, MSVC++ is freaking fast, Simcity 3000 is working, CubaseSX doesn´t hang, Winamp plays, Outlook runs. Sweeeeat. What anyone else could ask more?!
